There is a light that never goes out...

I live in the south, and I can recognize Southern Accents, and I'm pretty sure I don't have one.

I was surprised at how many people had accents in Arizona. Like most of them came from Louisiana or somewhere around those parts.

Actually, every region has a fairly distinct accent. Trust me, as an actor, I've had to study a little bit of all of them. Not to mention I'm constantly asked to do various british accents, irish, russian, etc...and even each of those has regional differences.

Hell, I naturally have a british accent, but after being made fun of relentlessly when I first moved to the States, I got rid of it by active suppression. Now it only comes out when I'm drunk.

I don't think people will lose their accents, especially considering how ingrained some of them are.

Californians don't have an accent as far as I know. :thizz:
No accent is the accent. :NomNomNom: And all those crazy Brits would insist that we all have American accents, even though we don't know what the bloody hell they're on about.

They also don't come here anymore. :kermit:
Dude, I'm English and I don't think that Americans have that strong of an accent. It's definitely recognizable but nowhere as near as strong as some other accents. Deep south and New York are really exceptions to the rule though. Also my mum is American so I grew up with her accent around me, so maybe I'm not the most unbiased person.

I can't tell what an "American" accent is. I think a rule of thumb for something like this, is if you can't actually recognize an accent, then odds are you might just have the one you can't recognize.

Find your freedom in the music
Find your Jesus, find your kubrick
You will never fall apart, Diana
You're still in our hearts
Never let you fall apart
Together we'll dance in the dark

She looks good, but her boyfriend says she's a tramp
She's a tramp, she's a vamp
But she still does her dance
She's a tramp, she's a vamp

I didn't say you were mean. You seem nice enough to me. I'm just not surprised you sound like a valley girl.

I hate girls, btw. :p

like totally not surprised either. :NomNomNom:

I probably sound girlier than I actually am.

Australian or Scottish accents are the best.

If that's a sex face then apparently I'm a lot better with women than I thought. D:

People won't lose their accents. Dialects turn into new languages. If you look at the last 150,000 years or so people have been deviating from a common ancestral ("proto") language, so we're actually headed in the opposite direction right now. Languages are constantly changing in different ways from region to region. (although we can always express the same thoughts regardless of what language in what era, so it's not for better or for worse, it's just a fluid system.) It's in linguistics books written by smarter, more verbose people than me.
