I was in class playing, and came across a shiny mareep, lvl 13, with a neutral nature making it half decent to train if I wanted to do so. I was happy I got my first shiny in a very long long time.

Yzarc, you need to tell me if you find some magical way to train, because honestly I can't even beat the second Elite Four yet.. D:
Go to the Pokemon Center outside Mt. Silver and fight a bunch of wild level 42 pokemon. Other than that, Gym Leader rematches are good ways to level, and just make sure you've fought all the trainers in Kanto. There are a lot of different paths to take, so it's easy to miss a bunch. For example, you might go from Pallet Town > Cinnabar > Seafoam > Fuchsia, but if you do that, make sure you take the route south of Lavender Town too to fight all those trainers and make sure you take Cycling Road.

Also, some pokemon just level faster than others. Legendary pokemon tend to take a lot more experience to levelup than non-legendary (Of course, they're usually more powerful. There are some that still aren't that great, though, like Entei.)

Once your pokemon are right around 60 (mine were in the high 50s) you can probably take the Elite 4 rematch, but just make sure to bring a shitload of Revives, Hyper Potions, Full Restores and Full Heals. Also, I might recommend some temporary stat boosters (X-items). A lot of times, boosting your attack will be the difference between an OHKO and a 2HKO, but if you do it towards the beginning of the battle, you'll get a bunch of OHKOs instead of a bunch of 2HKOs which is totally worth using one turn to boost up.

This is definitely true for Lance. If you have an ice attack, you probably still won't be able to OHKO Dragonite because he's so goddamn strong, but you'll get pretty damn close usually (My mamoswine didn't even OHKO with Ice Shard) but if you boost your attack or special attack just once, that'll usually be enough to OHKO all of Lance's pokemon, especially if you have someone that can use Ice and Lightning attacks (since this asshole uses Charizard and Gyarados)

Shiny Arbok, Parasect and Bellossom. Can't remember why it's not a Vileplume; I'm sure there was a reason.

I want a shiny Rapidash :(
I have a shiny ponyta. I'd trade for one of your shinies.
Preferably arbok
@rock- I'd trade you a shiny for something

also, pokemon you get through trades gain more experience per win.

Elite Four is just as easy as I remembered. Gengar solo'd Will, Typhlosion almost solo'd Koga. Machamp almost solo'd Karen. Only problem I had was with Lance. Over all, I only used six Revives and a dozen MooMoo Milks.

For those contemplating using Nidoking, I give you a thumbs up. But I would warn you not to fall into the trap of giving him Megahorn. Psychic Pokemon rape Nidoking, and most Grass Pokemon have a Poison type as well. If you want coverage against Dark Pokemon, Superpower or Focus Blast is the way to go. I gave my Nidoking Megahorn once, and I rarely, if ever, used it.

Haven't got a shiny in this game yet. Though recently I got a shiny Lileep in Platinum. Talk about random...

I couldn't get past lance. My highest level pokemon was gengar at 43 and my scizor at 41. Feraligatr and aerodactyle were at 40 and nidoking at 39. Scizor soloed wil and soloed that dark-type chick but freakin lance took me out fairly quickly with his second dragonite :( I'm considering trading over a pokemon from pearl or just using a legendary. I'd train more of I had a vs seeker

I've gotten up to Red, and I tried battling him (My highest level Pokemon, not counting my Lv. 70 Lugia, was my Lv. 56 Typhlosion), only to get whopped. I do, however, have a pretty good training regime.

I've raised a Starmie, Blastoise, Pigeot, Aerodactyl and Marowak in my Leaf Green version; with the boosted EXP and Lucky Egg item, I've just started rematching Gym Leaders, since trained Pokemon give more EXP than wild ones.

Already, after like ~10 mins, my Starmie is level 62...roughly 4000 EXP per enemy faint. Not bad at all...

I caught a shiny Oddish. :tom:
Aw lucky D:

At least you got a good shiny. I got a stupid raticate.
Actually, it sucks very hard. It has a nature which boosts Sp. Def at the expense of Sp. Atk. Now, any other stat reduction would have been okay, but a lower Sp. Atk? That's just bad, bad mojo for grass types.

I have a shiny oddish in pearl but I don't know what nature it is though

Something awesome happened. I went on the gps and saw someone put up a level 60 shiny dragonite for trade. What they wanted was an eevee. It was a
good day :) I'm thinking about using it to beat lance but it won't be as satisfying as using pokemon I raised on my own....

Lance was a little bitch. Three Dragonites? Really Nintendo? Beating him pretty much relies on guessing which Dragonite you're fighting. I used my Choice Specs Magnezone, and switched if he sent out the level 50 one, aka the one with Fire Blast.

And for those who care, I've dropped Miltank for Steelix.

Ice moves are x4. Is it really that hard?

I mean, if I could LEARN an Ice type move, I wouldn't be having these problems.

Gyarados, ice fang=nice rape against dragons, especially dragonite. And if that doesn't work, I know my jolteon will always get a first hit with thunderbolt.

Is having Gengar and Alakazam in the same party overkill or not?

He's only hard when you fight him with underleveled pokemon. None of my pokemon are below lv45 so I should be fine now.

Or, Adam, you could quit yer bitching and go to the Goldenrod Department Store and get a Blizzard TM. That, plus Leppa Berries, and you really should not have a problem with Ice-type moves. If you want to sacrifice power for accuracy, you could grind coins for the Ice Beam TM at the Game Corner.

Even though that it sucks that they removed the pokeradar which was a great way to get shinies. Nice that they give you Gyarados since that is nice to add to your shiny collection.

Me neither. I'm unsure if you can actually find any in these versions (HG/SS) since they are remakes of old GB games that shinies barely existed in.

Or you could just train a Pokemon with "Calm Mind" spamming it enough times and Red's team is as good as dead. That's what I did to defeat him.

I had no problem with Lance since I've used Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire which inflics 50% chance of Burn status useful for lowering his outrage attack. Otherwise ice moves with X Special items.

But it's a pain to earn the coins at the only game they have availible that is hard to scrape up coins in. Not to mention more time consuming.
