Your friendly neighbourhood spiderman.

I always found there was a bit of a gap between the elite 4 and the rest of the game. I saw it as a chance to perfect your team and finish anything you need before fighting them.

A few hours?.... A day, right? Haha
So true! I love track of time when I play pokemon. <3 I just don't feel like the game adequately prepares your team for the elite four. >: I'm a few levels short, and then I've had so much stuff to do recently I haven't had time to raise them!
I think you have to grind a bit. My team wasn't ready, but it was my fault. 4 of the 6 pokemon I took with me were traded over from Pearl (Johto Pokedex pokemon) and I got pretty lazy because of the exp boost they get and how easy the elite 4 in Pearl was...That and I relied too much on Feraligatr's Ice fang when I got to Lance. It's not like it was faster than Lance's dragonites so I don't what I was thinking :P

Also...my Gengar's speed sucks. I think his nature is Brave. If he wasn't a Shiny one, I wouldn't have even bothered leveling him.

Raising attack and lowering speed is probably the worst for Gengar. Mine has raised SA with lowered Sp. Att.

I did fine taking out the elite four, lance was a close one.

My alakazam and gengar destroyed the first guy, since both knew shadow ball.
Lugia, Typhlosion, and Alakazam breezed past Koga. Alakzam, Lugia, and Gyarados beat up bruno, and the only pokemon that gave me some trouble was umbreon since it was a pure dark and I don't have any good bug or fighting pokemon at the moment. I might teach alakazam focus blast though.

But man, I got lucky with Lance. One of his dragonites and the aerodactyl was a pain in the ass. I barely managed to make it on a last ditch effort with Gyarados and ice fang. wooh.

Now that I'm in Kanto, I can start grinding easily, and have better ev training.

Do you actually bother with EV's then or just take what you get?

I EV trained my Gengar and Typhlosion some for certain, and I do it with others while I can.

I never EV train my Pokemon. It's too complicated for me. I just prefer to casually play the game without worrying about EVs.

I just go with the flow. I have a shiny treeko and turtwig that I plan on ev training though. I already blew it with other pokemon.

EV training in-game is a huge waste of time, same with trying to get a good nature. Things like that have marginal effects, which matter when it comes to competitive play, but don't matter at all in-game. In-game is about having fun and beating gym leaders and leveling pokemon, and you take the fun out of it by trying to build a competitive team against non-competitive computers.

I didn't remember leveling being such a nightmare in the old gold/silver. But that's fine, I don't use g/s for powergrinding. I use my platinum file for that.

EV gain isn't to be overlooked, but it is hard to accomplish while playing through. You can get over 50 extra points in any two stats, ultimately, if you monitor it right. Which can add up to a lot. But... honestly, you're better off when playing through to force-level and stuff your IVs in later. Unless you want to dodge half the enemies that come at you.

GS... actually, disappointed me a bit. Seeing old areas in shiny new features with new challenges was fun, but... I realized a lot of what I thought was something great about G/S that made it outshine ruby/sapphire... it just feels mediocre now. I enjoyed the ability to recatch gs pokemon. But even with 'added content', the 'story' was lame, even for Pokemon. The leveling was kind of obnoxious. The ability to go to two regions? Still cool.

I'm mixed on HGGS. It's a good remake, but... it made me reconsider the ironic supposed golden age--and that I gave ruby/sapphire far less credit than I should have.

On EV grinding, those confused about it can seriously just ask me. It's fairly simple when explained right. 4 EVs = 1 stat point. 510 EVs max. 255 max each stat. Two stats can be maxed or it can be spread out. Serebii.net's pokedex tells you EV values. Power bracers/belts give +4 EVs of the specific stat per fight.

Maybe that helps. Bringing up natures/etc just makes it stupidly complex.

Has anyone noticed a particular change in breeding results statistically? I heard the formula for IV inheritence changed a bit but I haven't been able to tell how yet.
