There is a light that never goes out...

So recently, I bought a 120gb PS3 slim for $180 lol and so I bought Metal Gear Solid 4. I beat it last night.

IMO, the game was good, but my favorite in the series is still MGS3. The game seemed too focused on being cienmatic, and not focused enough on being MGS. Don't get me wrong, the cutscenes were great. But the actual gameplay didn't really stack up in comparison.

Basically, the game still tried to be sneaking around, espoinage stuff. And some parts of the game were like that. But most of the game was having you trying to sneak through a warzone, with two sides fighting each other. I'm sorry, thats just not gonna happen. Plus, I found some parts, where if you just ignore the fighting, its too boring. Like there was one area in particular in South America, where they were fighting at like a Prison Camp or something (at least, thats what Otacon called it). It was ez pz and quick to just ignore the fighting and go to the next area. You didn't even have to try and sneak through the middle of it. Additionally, when you are discovered, it seemed like it was just too much of a hassle to run away and take over, and wait for the alert to get over. Might as well just kill everyone when that happens, no?

Being able to buy weapons and ammo from Drebin also made going guns blazing just too easy. I could just buy tons and tons of ammo for my Pistol and M4, and never have to worry about running out.

So alot of the game was me going guns blazing and mowing through people. Which is fine... But I liked how MGS3 worked better. You could fight like that, but there was more sneaking around and stuff in that game. I felt like the gun/shooting system was improved to the extent that you really didn't need CQC at all. I think I slit maybe 3 or 4 people's throat in the entire game. I slit so many throats of people in MGS3, that the boss fight against The Sorrow was a bitch lol

Story wise, it was good. Pretty much tied up all the loose ends. Some of the stuff later on was kind of confusing. SPOILERS At the end, Drebin says he was ordered by the Patriots to support Snake, because they thought Liquid's plan was dangerous and wanted Snake to stop him. They just didn't expect Snake to kill their system along with his. But... I don't see how they knew that Liquid's plan would be a threat to them. The only reason Guns of the Patriots was able to work, was because he caught the Patriots with their pants down, with a still-alive GW that they didn't know about.

I really liked the part where you piloted Metal Gear Rex. MG Rex is one of my all time favorite Mech designs, and getting to fight Rex vs Metal Gear Ray was awesome.

About it being so cinematic...I think some of the cut scenes went on for a little too long...The funny thing is that my mom even commented on the game by saying "what the hell, are you watching a movie or playing a game? you're not even doing anything"

Good game though. I also liked 3 better. LOVED the boss fight against The Boss.

I don't mind the cutscenes themselves as long as they are good. And for the most part, I think the game did a good job with them. I just don't think the actual gameplay parts as a whole matched up with them.
