2) Maybe because that is something a heinous person would do? Sometimes it is the pleasure of an act itself that is the reward.
Okay, you shoot some innocent person in the face because you wanted the satisfaction of doing it, even if it turns out you are hunted down by his buddies. So you shoot some innocent person in the face, and you get the satisfaction of doing it. You already got your reward! Now you also get the reward of killing his buddies who are hunting you down! After all, free kills right? Such a good reward. Where is the problem?

Sometimes you want a more substantial reward, like looting your victim's corpse to find a nice new weapon or item. Something with more lasting value. Killing an unarmed opponent may satisfy you at first but five minutes later you'll wish you had gotten something more.

Since when do you not get EXP or items from killing ANYTHING in an RPG?

I've failed to come up with something witty, so I hope you will enjoy this filler text instead.

Which RPG is Laharl even talking about?

There is a light that never goes out...

You know, I see Laharl's point though. I disagree that being means you shouldn't get punished, but I think there should be pros and cons to every action in games with moralities. It should slide a little more grey than it does as well.

Okay, so you saved the village full of people, great, but in the ensuing resuce mission your own family died. On the brightside, you are considered a hero, and your loss is not in vain, as this village will flourish and rebuild the kingdom.
So you didn't save that village? Well, now all the dead will haunt since it was your fault due to a series of actions anyways. However, your son and wife are alive, so your bloodline can continue to live on, which is some important bloodline of kings.

Just an idea. Make it more grey, Lionhead/Bethesda/Bioware/etc

I know in Fable you can pretty much get away with being an utter douche... and I think you get rewarded handsomely if you sacrifice your spouse to the dark god or something, too. It's less apparent in Dragon Age, since I don't think you can kill random citizens, but you can kill your party members at certain points as well as doom several other plot-integral characters for the lulz.

Exactly. More balance for both sides. Pros & cons for all.
