Twilight Princess is a great game, but lacks the charm that Wind Waker has, and it's not really special for a Zelda game (apart from the shear scope and length of the game). It's the most polished and open-worlded TLOZ but neither of those are qualities I'm looking for. Also, Wind Waker is to this day, in my opinion, the most beautiful video game ever created.

Agreed. I couldn't get into TP, but Wind Waker is just so beautiful and has this charm to it that makes it so loveable.

Oh come on, there's no way that none of you liked Twilight Princess! >:O

That game kept me up for hours, I must admit. I'm not denying that Wind Waker was amazing, though. I played it through twice (once in the Pajama clothing). I don't think I've ever done that with any other Zelda game.

Actually, I played through Ocarina of Time twice. Once with my N64, and the second time with my downloaded version on the Wii. :henteko: I am ashamed.

I think my problem with TP was the Wii controls. For a game like Zelda, I prefer the basic control pad, and unfortunately, the Wii version did not have that option.

If you're talking about sword fighting - I agree. If you're talking about anything projection-missile based, I disagree; that works flawless on the Wii. With the 1:1 controls in the new Zelda I'm hoping the sword fighting is now "fixed" (not to mention it can finally improve on OOT's controls). It wasn't that annoying to me, but looking back it was just less accurate to waggle in TP. Anything else in the game was, as far as I'm concerned, exactly the same - but with the added progressive scan and 16:9 I think the Wii version still had the upper hand.

Black, black sheep boy. Blue-eyed charmer. Head hanging with horns from your father. Oh, in a cold little mirror you were grown. By a black little wind you were blown alone. Alone. Alone...

Cold smile on your lips. You shake and shiver. Some animal sips where the river flows from a black little crack in a stone. To a crackle in a radio song, sing along. Sing along. Sing along...

Warm light when your eyes fill with laughter. Some animal lies in the pasture, holes in it's throat where the blood was drawn. In it's mouth where the tongue was torn by your claws. Your claws. Your claws...

I woke from a dream. We were running from every being that was hunting. But we let them get ahead of us. We let them lie in wait for us. We're fucked. We're fucked! We're fucked...

I rose from a dream. I had just destroyed everything with one crushing blow. And I woke up and watched it go. And I woke up and wagged my tongue. So long. So long! So long...

Ohhhh life is bigger. It's bigger than you, and you are not me. The lengths that I will go to, the distance in your eyes. Oh no I've said too much; I set it up. That's me in the corner. That's me in the spotlight losing my religion. Trying to keep up with you. And I don't know if I can do it...

Oh no I've said too much; I haven't said enough. I thought that I heard you laughing. I thought that I heard you sing. I think I thought I saw you try.

Every whisper. Every waking hour I'm choosing my confessions. Trying to keep an eye on you like a hurt, lost, and blinded fool. Fool. Oh no I've said too much; I set it up. Consider this. Consider this, hint of the century, consider this. This slip that brought me to my lays my knees failed. What if all these fantasies come flaming around? Now I've said too much...

I thought that I heard you laughing. I thought that I heard you sing. I think I thought I saw you try. But that was just a dream. That was just a dream...

That's me in the corner, that's me in the spotlight losing my religion. Trying to keep up with you. And I don't know if I can do it...

Oh no I've said too much; I haven't said enough. I thought that I heard you laughing. I thought that I heard you sing. I even think I thought I saw you try. But that was just a dream. Try, cry, why try. That was just a dream. Just a dream, just a dream. Dream...

Cuz, oh, what a lost
I went back to get my stuff
And it was tangled up and tough
I stood there and stared you down
And I walked aimlessly round
With a flaming pumpkin head
Ohhhhh, what a loss
My soft hands replaced by claws
You turned me into a stray dog
From a mighty human man
Ohhh, what a loss
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, what a loss
I miss my closest friend
And now I cling to rocks and wind

It's a precious thing we lost...

Just beat ALTTP a while back, I liked it a lot... but yeah they've improved on the formula a lot. Having played the original, though, it's amazing to see how much they improved in ALTTP.

Best topdown Zelda goes to Minish Cap or Spirit Tracks IMO

When we talked in this thread about the MotionPlus Zelda, it wasn't out yet. Skyward Sword <3 the charm of Wind Waker, more dense gameplay, no light-the-torches puzzles, and the beetle :up2:

I've got a few problems with it though:

- the sky's too empty, needs way more islands, especially big ones
- forest / desert / volcano environments, really? Again? Come on Nintendo, this really needs to change.
- boss battles need to be tougher, even though they're definitely tougher than WW/TP's, they still need to crank up the difficulty

This guy right here was my favourite Zelda boss of all time, after what was probably the best dungeon in Skyward Sword

Skyward Sword was great in the beginning and slowly turned into good. The items were all completely different from what Zelda games in the past have had (such as the Beetle and Bellows), but there weren't that many of them. Also, there was not much to buy or upgrade and not many island in the sky like Shadow said. The Goddess Cubes were great in the beginning but then you learn that most of them contain trash. A bottle and two pieces of heart are the only worthwhile thing from all dozens of cubes.

What with all the negativity, I feel I need to highlight how fantastic a few things were, though:

- Agile Link. Just give us that jump button next time, I guess?
- Vertical levels, especially the forest, all those tree branches
- Tons of dungeon elements in the overworld, incredibly dense gameplay, no running around for hundreds of meters without anything (Twilight Princess)
- Incredibly diversity in boss battles
- MotionPlus controls genuinely added to the experience, I really don't wanna go back to button control (they're implementing the gamepad, so I'll have to)
- Riding birds in the sky like a badass never, ever got old

Oh and the bellows were kinda/sorta very similar to items in Minish Cap and Spirit Tracks. But for the first time in 3D, so still cool.

Bird riding got old quickly for me. I'm still a proponent of the teleport system like in OoT where you could just instantly teleport to a handful of strategic spots across the map. The forest and volcano temple in SS were okay, the mining facility and especially the sea of sand were awesome. But my favourite for temples is still Twilight Princess, with the yeti manor and city in the sky. I should replay TP, it's been years.

i loved the relationship between link and zelda! it was tons better than games in the past, i think.
despite fi's weirdly animated "singing" i really liked her too. More than Midna, even. (to be fair, maybe i just need to play twilight princess again. Although it lacked that special zelda charm i think)

Don't even mention Fi.

Midna was the highlight of TP for me.

But yeah I liked the relationship of Link and Zelda in Skyward, basically high school lovers. I just wish Nintendo would take the step and make them a romantic couple already.

There is an 80% chance that I hate Fi because she spoils everything, points out obvious things to the point of obnoxious, has repetitive dialogue that is somehow never subverted, and has no character development whatsoever until it is shoehorned in at the end.

C-c-c-combo breaker!

I loved the whole wii control aspect on SS. Like shadow said, the map areas are a lot better; a lot more things that engage you along the way, different levels within the maps, as well as the constant revisiting of areas as well as having them altered over time. I really enjoyed the water area when the woods were flooded. It was like a whole new place!

Also, I totally agree with Shadow's argument on Fi. She could have been better, there was potential there but her character got old and I felt like she didn't tie in well with the story line.
