The Machinist. Another excellent performance by Christian Bale. The first half of the film is quite confusing and then the second half answers everything. This is probably the most complete film I've ever seen, I didn't have any questions afterwards. If you're into thrillers and films that slowly unfold the story like a puzzle, this is highly recommended.

EDIT: Apart from the acting I'd also like to quickly praise the atmosphere and things that helped set it, such as the different filters they used.

EDIT2: I don't want to sound too hypocrite but would you people mind staying on-topic a bit more? Or at least not talk about porn in every single thread? Cheers.

Vampire Hunter D = AWSMMMMMMM

well I've only watched Bloodlust, I haven't seen the first one, but man, bloodlust was tits.

The DVD also had only the english dub for some asshole reason I don't know of, but the dub was actually really good outside of Leila.

I've also been going on a Hayao Miyazaki run, already saw Mononoke as said above, also have seen Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro, both were entertaining but nowhere near as good as Mononoke.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was... decent. I wouldn't watch it again.

In other news, I'm watching Babylon 5, and it's fucking awesome. One of the best sci-fi series I've ever seen.

I probably overstated my thoughts on Bloodlust. I didn't mean it was some must-watch film, and I probably won't watch it again, but when mediocrity and banality rule the world (/kinda hicks), it's nice to actually find a film that's entertaining.

The new Paris Hilton film is the lowest rated film on IMDB ever.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804492/

I usually stay as far away from the whole "celebrity scene" as possible, but I thought this was damn funny. So is the review. It scored a whopping 7% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kiki's delivery service = good stuff but still no where near Mononononoke level

The Animatrix = I've kinda watched it a couple times on TnT, but both times I was also doing something else so I was only catching bits and pieces, so this is my first time really going through and also having it unedited, good stuff. it'd be awesome if more things like that could be created, a bunch of short stories all pertaining to a larger story with each part directed by a different stud director.

And lately I've been trying to get through The Heroic Legend of Arslan, http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...nime.php?id=758 , since the VHS tapes are due back soon, but I just haven't been able to get into it. I'm currently somewhere in the second episode (1-2 are an hour long, 3-6 are 30 minutes), and it's kinda interesting, but it just hasn't grabbed hold of me. I also think it doesn't help that I don't think I'm very interested in the whole medival thing...I thought I would be but it seems I'm not.

Control - Lots of films about musicians/bands these days, can't wait to see Dylan's. This one is pretty decent, it moved me more than Walk The Linke did. Joy Division isn't really my kind of music though. The main character's lover is hot, though, it's worth watching for just that.

If you're into this kind of music, or films about music in general.

Love Actually - I can barely believe it, a romantic comedy with loads of cliche elements in it that I enjoyed watching? That's a first. The original elements make it worth watching, along with the acting and the multiple storylines (and the fact that Mr Bean is in it).

A film for when you want to feel good and positive again after all that pessimistic crap.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

my faith in Miyazaki is restored big time.

After watching Mononoke, which rocked me big time...Castle in the Sky was entertaining but absolutely nowhere near Mononoke level. Kiki's delivery service was pretty entertaining but just wasn't all that interesting. And I just couldn't get into Totoro at all. I put my Miyazaki binge on hold, finally started up again, and man, Nausicaa is really close to Mononoke level.

greeeeeat stuff

one quip though was the music.

while some of it was amazing, other was flat out annoying.

I don't think I've ever heard a soundtrack so polarizing.

Totoro is aimed more at children. I watched it a lot when I was little so I have those emotional attachments to it.

But yeah, Nausicaä is amazing.

still good!.. but not near the level of most of his films.

Seriously? I never liked Iron Man but IMO the trailers look absolutely crap. There's not even a hint of story there, just explosions and random CGI stuff.

I'm watching Magnolia. So far so good (I'm halfway through - geez what a long film) but not quite as great as I'd expected from the ratings. The first 5-10 minutes set us up the bomb, but then it got completely different and just... less brilliant. Still lots of good scenes though, but I'll have to see how the rest plays out.

And suddenly it doesn't seem so strange for Tom Cruise to be a scientologist, if you can play fucked up roles like this... Respect the cock and tame the cunt! :haha:
