somebody stole the fucking 2nd and 3rd volume of outlaw star from my fucking library

I had been waiting nearly a month w/ it on hold, and now the library has just plain taken them off the catalog. So yeah, no 2nd and 3rd volume anymore.

it's seriously gay ass shit

I also think someone stole the fucking first volume to .hack//sign. I've had it on hold just as long as I have the outlaw star volumes. Which is really shitty because I burned 2 and 3 but I can't start the series w/o 1 haha...

someone also fucking stole the 6th volume of Angel Sanctuary so I have to read that online before continuing.

Though luckily, volumes 7 and up are normally available because I guess msot people quit after volume 5 since they don't have access to volume 6.

watched big fish

my thoughts:

1) Jessica Lange might be 58, but I'd still ravage that

2) I'd also ravage ALison Lohman. more like ohman. As in oh man, I'd ravage that. plus she voiced nauiscaa. ups.

3) Helena Carter is a lot hotter as a blonde, and I'd still ravage it.

4) Marion Cotillard: ravage

I've actually watched a bunch of freaks & geeks episodes as well... thought it was good, but not great or anything. I'll probably watch the rest of the season anyway, but I don't really see what the (underground) hype is about.

I saw Garden State 2 days ago and I don't think I've ever enjoyed a film that I had this low expectations for this much. I'm a fan of Zach Braff and Natalie Portman but their chemistry was amazing. IMDB says it's comedy/drama but I personally prefer the term "slice of life" (with a romantic edge to it), just like films like Juno. Speaking of Juno, I actually prefer this one over that - it's highly recommended.

EDIT: Holy shit I didn't know Zach Braff writes and directs as well - he did an amazing job with this film  go watch it

watched hard candy

second time I saw it, I saw it a couple years ago but it was a video recorded in a movie theater and it was really bad quality mostly color which is a highlight of the film is the color

so got to watch the dvd and yeah much better

but also man

ellen page is such a fucking amazing actress.

like to me

something that makes the difference between a good actor and a great actor is

a good actor, when you watch a film for the first time, you see them as doing a great job. but the more you watch it, the more you notice little thing. Like in fight club, when I watch Fight Club now, Brad Pitt's acting ability in the movie really gets on my nerves, although I loved his performances the first couple times I watched it.

A great actor, they are just as amazing if not more amazing w/ every viewing of the film. Using the Fight Club example again, Edward Nortan's performance great.

and page is a really fucking great actress. It's amazing.

plus she's hot.

w/ a fucking amazing body.

when she flashes the guy and takes her shirt off and shit, her body man, ahh I'd kill for that body. Yeah she could use bigger tits but still.

Been watching the latest anime season and there's some good stuff there, especially Soul Eater - which is a badass/funny versio of Bleach. Everyone should check that out.

Other than that I'm currently watching the latest Scrubs episode, it seems alright but I got a bit too hyped over it. Still, another season means more funnyness from this show.

I saw the Cowboy Bebop movie for the first time last night. It was awesome! I completely forgot about how badass CB could be. That being said, the only reason I hadn't watched it yet was because I already knew it was going to be cool, and I needed some backup stuff for when I had already watched all the cool anime (this was before I started making the "which anime to watch" list, which now contains well over 50 titles).

I've got loads of anime to watch (see signature) but one of the ones I'm most looking forward to is Texhnolyze, a cyberpunk (I <3 cyberpunk) anime that reminds me of Matrix and Ergo Proxy (and got great ratings).

I could've sworn we saw 1 or 2 eps of Lain together. In any case, you borrowed me the DVDs and I watched them all. Not quite fast-paced enough for me, but by no means bad. I also wanna give Haibane Renmei another shot.

EDIT: But from what I understand Texhnolyze is about a dystopian future... and I just friggin' love dystopian films.

Oh btw I'm going to watch Into The Wild now. High expectations.

Oldboy

goodstuff!

spoilers

Overall the movie was only "pretty good", up to the ending. Lot of awesome quotes though. I loved

You see, they say that people shrivel up because they have an imagination. So, don't imagine anything, you'll become brave as hell.

So fucking true and awesome.

And it was very well directed, I really liked how things were shown.

The ending though was what put it over the top for me. I mean up to that point you had a lot of awesome quotes and very good directing but otherwise kinda ok material. Than the ending came and it was just like holy shit. I mean I kinda saw the whole sister/bad guy incest thing going on, but I didn't realize the whole dad/daughter thing until the guy was flipping through the book, and it was just like omg omg omg omg AWESOME

and then the scene where the guy kills himself was SO awesomely edited but I wish the film ended there. After that it just got drawn out and kinda stupid, and I hate the whole hypnotist thing to remove his memory.

so yeah overall good stuff, but likely wouldn't be as good in further viewings.

Right now I'm watching "Ani-Kuri", a series of 1-minute anime shorts that are very original, stunning and overall simply must-watch anime. You can even stream them on the website, over here (just click a season, one of the five creators that season, and then "movie"). Alternatively you can download a torrent of the first 12 (in high def) over here.

They were, simply put, created by the industry's best (the creators/teams of Paprika/Byousoku 5 Centimeter/Macross/Steamboy/Fruits Basket/Tekkonkinkreet/Last Exile/Ghost In The Shell/Kill Bill/Final Fantasy etc etc) and it shows. It's only 15 minutes of creativity in total, people! Watch it!

You can see some here:

I watched a movie called "The Perfect Witness" last night as well as "The Exorcist". I've seen "The Exorcist" already, and the other movie was alright, but it didn't keep my interest the whole way through. I don't think it was a very popular movie either as I had never heard of it before. But the girl I was with picked it out at Shop N' Save for a rental so I went with it.

Finished Gunbuster. It wasn't very cohesion for me because it was like months between watching episodes.

But still very good.

I always though it was going to be like a fan-service kind of thing (I just got done reading the wiki and I assume this is why: "The series is also notable for being the first anime to introduce jiggling breasts as a form of fan service, which led to such movement being sometimes called the "Gainax bounce", and also lead to the show being nicknamed "Bustgunner" by fans.") but it was completely different than I thought it'd be.

I didn't realize it was directed by the same guy who made Evangelion until I read the wiki, but that makes a lot of sense considering they have a good amount of similarities. I mean, Evangelion is still light years away, and Gunbuster is so extremely upbeat compared to Evangelion but I was surprised at the amount of depressing things in the series. What I liked was what I liked about Evangelion: it didn't focus on the "mecha" aspect, it focused on the pilot aspect. I also absolutely loved loved loved the final battle animation. That was really cool. Although I didn't like the whole black and white thing for the final episode.

Very good series and I'd suggest you guys to check it out if you haven't already, definitely a classic. Only 6 episodes long (and the first episode essentially is a fanservice anime episode thing. But the final 4 eps are great). And man I love the animation of old anime. Fuck this new age shit.

That sounds pretty good, it wasn't on my "to watch" list yet as I prefer newer anime but the "only 6 episodes" convinced me. Although there's apparently a sequel OVA (another 6 episodes) and a movie too - and I'm usually someone to watch all of a serie in one go.

Not a big fan of Evangelion, but "more upbeat" sounds good to me  I've been watching Texhnolyze, Mushi-Shi and (to a lesser extent) Code Geass lately and none of those are upbeat. So much so that even Lucky Star can't even bring the balance back

Baccano!, Kino no Tabi, Tengen, Code Geass R2 and Speed Grapher are next on my list. A very long list indeed.

Code Geass

Simply put, mech meets Death Note with some "school life" in there, especially the first half. The main character reminds one of Light, althought with emotions and ties to other people - he actually cares about people and that's what motivates him, along with the sense of justice that Light has. Instead of murdering criminals Lelouch (the main character) decides to battle the evil (?) empire of Brittania which has defeated Japan, taken over and renamed it "Area 11".

There's a lot of emotion in this anime but it has to be said: this feels like a more "normal" anime than Death Note does. There's the typical characters: perfect nice girls who do no wrong whatsoever, evil insane bad guys. That being said, I stil highly recommend watching it, especially if you enjoyed Death Note. I'm not a fan of mechs but this is definitely an accessible mech anime (as they don't spend minutes talking about their mechs and what they can do and the upgrades and whatnot).

This anime has really taken Japan over and I can see why, it's definitely the "next big thing" after Naruto, Bleach, Death Note.

On ANN I rated it: Excellent, should be in anyone's collection (9/10).

The Tower Of Druaga

(click for a summary, I'm not gonna explain all of it)

Look at the promotional picture, looks like yet another typical RPG adventure anime, right? It kinda is. But there's some great parody moments in it. The funny episodes are easily my favourites, eventhough it does a very decent job at serious stuff as well. For example, in an episode our heroes land in an area where people keep triggering traps that affect the characters, like in an RPG. Except, the effects are rather unusual: gender-switching, neko-fying (for lack of a better word), turning the anime in a sprite-based game-like episode, etc. Not the highest recommendation for this season, but I really enjoyed watching it.

On ANN I rated it: Good, worth seeing (7/10)

I also remember some bad ones. But as you can see on the ANN page lots of people thought it was a masterpiece. Personally, I think they are probably people with a sister complex, as the anime seems to be targeted at them.

It has some really good moments and a very unique style (and some fun characters and analyzations of social situations) but those things didn't manage to wash away the bad aftertaste of the boring episodes. At no point did the anime actually capture me.

Almost? Yeah. I think the manga itself already ended but scanlations are a few months behind.

So it depends on your reading pace; it's going to take you quite a while to catch up but I don't see the last chapter scanlated for another good 2-3 months or so.
