I just really don't like the new guys I guess. Would much rather have Foreman (Who's role is basically nothing now), Chase, and Cameron. The new guys seem to have basically no personality what so ever, they're just there to be there. |

I do think the 5th season has gotten better though so far (on the 5th ep). But, I think I got out-housed. Haven't had much interest in watching any episodes lately. When I was going through season 1-3, I was watching 2-3 eps a day some days. |

finished it last night. I didn't want to post earlier because I didn't really know what'd happen. Watched the series quickly, and at the time of your post I was on like ep 9 and it looked like things might head south. To me a lot of how good the series would be hinged on what exactly Misaki's purpose was. Ep 9 or whatever number was the one at the end where he and misaki, Yamazaki and his girl went to the fireworks and it looked like it might just go down your prototypical hot girl falls for loser guy for no real reason thing. But with the path it went down with Misaki...very good. For me the series was just amazing because it hit me on a personal level more than any anime has, and only one manga has hit me harder (Vitamin by Keiko Suenobu). There's also other books that'd be on it's level but not much. I don't want to get into everything because it's all rather personal but it shouldn't be hard to imagine given the nature of the series. I really liked that it had aspects you just don't find in anime normally. The meaningless of life, how useless we are as humans, how we cling to people we perceive that are more useless than we are to feel better about ourselves. A lot of quotes I loved towards the end. However, I hated the whole "conspiracy" thing and thought it was dumb in most cases. I mean, it kinda ruined the first half of the last ep for me. I thought it was going to be awesome cuz I'm all for suicide and, I mean, I get the purpose of what Sato did, take his own life while figuratively defeating Misaki's demon/nhk/whatever to allow her to move forward with her own life, but the way they directed it was just stupid. The second half of it was great though. Something I loved was that nothing really changed. There was no stupid happy ending. Which again, like what was Misaki's purpose, that was something with the first few episodes where it was just like ok, how is this going to end. But it was very good in my mind. The characters are still more or less struggling but hey, let's see what happens. Something I was afraid about going in was how much comedy there would be. I've wanted to watch it since it came out because several of the promo posters put me off since they made it look like an over the top comedy. And I fucking hate japanese anime comedy, rarely is something good. And while I don't really ever actually laughing out loud to the series, it was still in good taste. 1-24 it was really basically all entertaining, outside of the game/pyramid scheme arc, which was a boring 2-3 episodes, but the climax to the arc made it well worth it. downloaded the manga and starting that tonight, read the ending is different. Also ordered the novel from borders. Also fucking love the Hitoribocchi song and so fucking pissed that there isn't a (real) instrumental version like the one played in the series, at least not what I've found scouring the net. Pretty much felt the same about everything except I actually liked the conspiracy part... with my brother being big on the whole "conspiracy theories" thing it hit home pretty close too (not the same thing but still). Plus the trippy scenes were great, if a little too cartoony. Looking back, I cannot believe Gonzo produced it. Every anime Gonzo makes lacks something, a certain feeling. Yet this anime has this feeling probably more than anything else I've seen. And yeah it hit home pretty close for me as well. Surprised you didn't really mention the senpai, I really liked her and how the anime handled her. They didn't turn it into a love triangle and she was all mysterious and sort of the cause of all of it (correct me if I'm wrong, it's been like ~2 years since I've seen it). Let me know if the manga turns out to be any good because I've been checking out more lately. |

Since you like series like Lain and Haibane Renmei, have you checked out Texhnolyze? I didn't score it too highly in the recommendation thread but you might love it. It's deep and depressing and it's got a lot of loneliness themes in it... as well as some organised crime and stuff in the start. Pretty much just about a fucked up society. Honestly, it was plain boring to me at times - but so was Lain so if you love that... |

way too many people have complained about it being boring so I haven't seen it and yeah I agree on the senpai thing. everything was handled well. I only read the first volume last night but I didn't really like it much, but then again the anime didn't start getting "deep" until around the off meeting. |

I finished the second volume a couple nights ago. It goes by quickly (the second volume ends with the end of the off meeting, so 12 episodes of anime in two volumes. Which certainly brings to question what the other 6 volumes entail), but there are a lot of changes from the manga in how things play out throughout the coarse of the manga so far. And I don't like the changes tbh. Wondering which ones is closer to the book now... |

I just came back from seeing 2012. Most. Awesome. Film. Ever. Don't get me wrong, they managed to cram every Hollywood cliche in it (about 5 times), but IT HAS GIRAFFES BEING HELICOPTERED IN! It's like they made a list of things that would be awesome and then connected them with the flimsiest story ever. |

Kick-Ass Highly enjoyable film, bit predictable storyline but pretty good action scenes and humour. 7/10 Forgetting Sarah Marshall Didn't think I'd like this as everyone seems to like Superbad/Knocked Up/40 Year Old Virgin more than me. However, I really enjoyed this, one of the better comedies I've seen in the past years. 8/10 |

It's him at his best, as far as I'm concerned (though just different from HIMYM). I was gonna watch Sarah Marshall before but everyone seems to like Apatow films more than me, dunno why. This, however, was a very pleasant surprise; I'm even considering buying the DVD (and I only buy my favourite films, I've only got like 30 films). In contrast, I will not be buying Kick-Ass, I can't see myself watching that more than once after this.

So many people have been telling me that, that I was expecting it to be a lot worse than it actually was. About half the mysteries of the first season get solved withing the first season. Even more get solved in the second, only leaving about a handful of mysteries unsolved at this point. And yeah I know every answer leads to a new question, that's part of a good mystery, I don't expect everything to be wrapped up by the end of the episode. I honestly don't get why people get annoyed at the show... so they leave some mysteries to be solved until the later seasons, who cares? It'll make for good series finales. I guess it helps that I've decided to catch up on Lost when they're already in the last season. Edited by Shadow, Apr 5 2010, 07:00 AM.

If you have no idea what's going on you haven't been watching all the episodes of the show from the start... unlike 24 it doesn't remind you all the time about what's going on between all the characters so you kinda have to keep score. I guess it's a personal thing whether you like mysteries or not, and the lack of communication between cast members can get a little frustrating, but if you have no idea what's going on you're doing it wrong. |

So I'm on an Oscars rampage because I guess they're usually good films, so: Captain Phillips - Fantastic thriller, go watch it. Dallas Buyers Club - Holy shit was I wrong about McConaughey, cannot wait for Interstellar now. Great film, good mix of drama and comedy, very interesting subject. Gravity - You've probably already seen this, but if you haven't: It has some fantastic moments. Well worth seeing. Not the best film of the year, though. Nebraska - Eh, typical Oscars movie, but not really my things. Very slow, lots of complicated emotions and a storyline that could've been told in half an hour. It did leave an impression, but... overall, my least favourite of the bunch. 12 Years A Slave - Left a huge impression because us Europeans don't get taught much on slavery. That leaves Her, American Hustle, Philomena and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Her looks like my perfect film, so my expectations are ridiculously high. |

I saw Frozen, The Lego Movie, and 12 Years a Slave, from the ones being listed here recently. Frozen was so-so, in my opinion. It did a lot of things well and I do enjoy the one song, Let it Go, but I thought the ending was rushed and some parts were silly. The Lego Movie... Jon liked it more than I did. It had it's moments but overall, I thought it was kind of silly. 12 Years a Slave - good movie, not much more to say there. Definitely worth seeing. |

I actually saw Frozen just now. I loved it. Probably my favourite animated movie since Wall*E. I fully expected Anna to have fire / summer powers (red hair and such), though. And that Elsa would have the main role...? Oh, and Let It Go is amazing in Japanese. Those guys have really perfected voice acting, insane, probably better than the original. Minor spoilers for Frozen below... I had too many issues with Frozen (even though I liked it)... Elsa was "born with it" and not cursed, but we get no further explanation... why even bother to tell me she was born with it, then? It's irrelevant. There's obviously a difference but it's not explained. The ending was so... so... out of the blue... like, "OH MA GOSH EVERYTHING IS FROZEN I CAN'T CONTROL MY POWER... OH WAIT, I REMEMBER... LOVE! YAY ALL BETTER!" Also, I didn't care for Olaf. Or Hans... his character felt so forced, it was like... Elsa should be the bad guy here, she really should... but we're chickens and we can't do that, so here's Hans and he's suddenly the bad guy! It also looked almost exactly like Tangled, as far as the character designs go. As far as the songs go, as much as I liked them, especially Let It Go... they sound mostly just like generic Disney pop songs. I DID, however, REALLY like the shop keeper. Even if you don't plan to see Frozen or whatever, watch this clip. It's amazing. The set up is there's a huge blizzard in the middle of summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpzvS0ATxB4&feature=share YOOHOO! |
