I just saw Gravity today. I didn't think it would be that great (and I love space and shit), but man I was wrong! Excellent movie! Also would be amazing to see in 3-D. |

Few old movies that I've watched over the past ~year that I really loved: Mysterious Skin: Great depressing movie. Really sad ending. The music thread made me think of it because Sigur Ros's Samskeyti played over the final scene/credits and it really just added to the "I feel empty now" ending. I just stared at the credits listening to that song just thinking "fuck". Not going to be everybody's cup of tea, but personally I love depressing movies that stick with me for days and the last one that hit me as hard as this was Requiem for a Dream. Primer: Like nothing else I've ever seen. Another movie that stayed with me for days but for completely different reasons. What really got to me is just how it was shot/directed. It just has such a "real" feel to it that most movies completely miss. Incredibly confusing but very entertaining to watch it all unfold. Enter the Void: Alright, this is pulling a Neil here. But this movie was made to watch while high, and it more than succeeded what it set out to do (whereas most fail big time to me). I imagine this movie would be pretentious as fuck and boring as fuck sober. But it was such an incredible experience to watch while inebriated. I thought about not mentioning it due to the prerequisite circumstance and I imagine most people here are strait (I partake very rarely), but I figured I'd give it a shout out with just how crazy of an experience it was for me. All were on US Netflix, but I think Primer and Mysterious Skin were taken off. They're still in other countries. Yah for Hola Unblocker. Edited by :Ensam:, Mar 9 2014, 06:28 PM.

There really has been a trend of making longer movie series or TV series out of book series. I like that, there's only so much you can fit in a single movie. |

i'm not a fan of the actor who plays bilbo. so this is a problem. but! i didn't think the first was boring per se.. just. it needed something. and that thing.. was Elves. they're my favorite part of the movie! also did anybody notive all the orcs are white colored now? i think they were trying to make up for the fact that there wasn't a single POC in the LOTR's .. or the hobbit either, now that i think about it? wtf. |

Technically the movies don't take place in our universe, so that's not really an issue. Maybe the people shown in the movie are extremely diverse and representative for Middle Earth standards. |

Possibly. but i've come to understand how important representation is in our real life. I didn't always think like this, since it's easy to overlook or ignore when you're white. and most other people on tv and movies are all white too. :hehe: |

The Wolf Of Wall Street - The most hilarious film I've seen in ages. DiCaprio nailed it. Odd choice of perspective, not showing the victims, but it made the last 5 minutes all the more effective. It's long, but I watched it in 2 parts. 8/10 |

I'm boycotting it for reasons! Anyway~ I just watched the first Hobbit movie again but now the extended addition! I liked it more than i remembered, but i still stand by my original thought that the second movie was better. Probably because the added scenes, but it seemed like it flowed a lot better as well :chibi: <---- never sure when to use this smiley.. |

Captain America 2 is getting great reviews so far. Was not expecting that. I was pretty bored during the first movie, and Captain America's always been one of my least favourite superheroes. Whatcha gonna do, throw your shield? Oh, you are. We also haven't talked about Star Wars VII yet, but details are leaking out bit by bit. I'm cautiously optimistic, how about you guys? Between Virtual Reality, a new Star Wars movie, critically acclaimed comic book movies, girls now being into this stuff more than ever before and the indie gaming scene being huge, I think it's a great time to be a geek  Edited by Shadow, Mar 21 2014, 06:23 AM.

I've been optimistic about the new Star Wars from the start. Disney is very capable of making good movies, like the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Besides, how many Star Wars fans were terribly disappointed with the second trilogy? That was all George Lucas, so he's no guarantee of good movies either. The Star Wars universe is huge, big enough for dozens of games, comics and books. A few more movies will fit in nicely. |

George Lucas created a fantastic world, but man is he terrible at writing dialogue. Especially romantic dialogue. They got some fantastic writers and a great director on board, I can't really see it flopping critically. I also think Disney producing it will have hardly any influence on the tone, but I am hoping they allow some darker stuff. Edited by Shadow, Mar 21 2014, 08:42 AM.
