Words that I thought had gone for good seem to have made a comeback with the youth of this area. Very awful non PC words like Mong and Spas. :( I actually got really upset at my eldest when he came out with one of that words. Another thing (which I don't really understand) is when the kids see something cool they say, "Own" or "Ownage". Much overused in photo albums on Bebo!! Another one is when one kid says to another, "What you doing this weekend?" And the child replies, "Your mother, ha ha ha" They have absolutely no idea what they are on about!! My two have this bizarre thing, that I know some others do, and that is saying, "Shotgun" if they want to be first at something. |

I sometimes wonder if children actually understand what those words mean and that they relate to a specific medical condition which is now known as something else - something which they are familiar with. |

Well my two certainly didn't realise that these words used to be used to describe conditions. We have a friend who has a daughter with Downs, and my lads were horrified when I pointed this out to them. |

The change in use of language can be a minefield :( I worked with a foreign student who was so polite but came out with a right mouthful of swear words. I queried it and was informed a lecturer used that language in lectures. Poor lad was shocked rigid when I told him that if his mother heard him she would smack him - that was the poliest way to tell him. I asked the lecturer later if he was teaching BSc Profanity! |

Wasn't David Beckham supposed to epitomise the 'metrosexual' type? In other words, clean, tidy, fashionable, fastidious, urban and straight? Think the word itself has dropped back out of fashion, if it was ever in. |
