I was wondering this last night , you know when people stand and sing this song , why is it that we cross our arms , then hold the hand of the person next to us . Has it always been done this way ? and is there a reason why it is done like this , with arms crossed ? Thanks in advance for any answers . |

According to this site: http://www.clansinclairsc.org/auldlangsyne.htm (The last paragraph up from the bottom before the translation). "The ritual of holding hands is symbolic of shaking hands with everyone, and if this is done all across the globe then you are in effect shaking hands with your friends everywhere". |

I thought that at the start you should have your hands uncrossed and just hold hands with your nieghbours and then the end cross them. |
