the meetings were productive as always thanks to everyone who attended I see we have an into animation now and that is a great start, the next thing we need is the backdrop for the forest one thing I talked about is project continuity, where if any of us were unable or unwilling to continue the rest of us could pick up and continue Since our documents are all public losing any one team member won't stop the whole thing since we can make a copy and move on. But everyone please think about what you are working on and how you can make sure the project keeps moving if you were to fall off the face of the earth. One thing I want to nail down this week is how we are handling our creative asset repository. This is something our creative team will have to figure out. Our repository should have the following characteristics 1. easily accessible to all team members 2. allows for commenting 3. having more restrictive access where the "final" versions of things we decide to use will be stored Several proposals have been floated around but the creative team leads will need to decide amongst themselves what the best solutions are. And by decide I mean actually make a decision and go with it, even if i isn't the perfect solution it will be better than nothing. ---------------------- Proposal for dialog/cutscenes This is something I've been thinking about for a while and I'm still not sure how to present the excellent script that we have, and the best way to do it with the resources we have available. Take a look at how the original NES Ninja Gaiden handled their cutscenes/story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGyFQ9aRp_U Its all barely moving static images or 2 frame animation. Yet with clever use of the available visual effects it was able to tell a relatively complicated and interesting story for its time. Let me know if this looks in line with what we are thinking for our game. ---------------------- Storyboards One thing we are missing in a lot of idea proposals are storyboards. The easiest way to make them is simple 3 panel comics showing a before, during, and after shot of whatever we are trying to present. Here is an example for a proposed forest enemy, the egg sack (note the ms paint skillz): ![]() If we get into the habit of including storyboards with our idea proposals they will be much easier to understand, discuss, and implement in the future |
