This is a question that's been brought up several times, so I thought I'd make a thread about it.

Do you think that playing on a Nintendo console is serious gaming?

Of course. Candy Crush, isn't serious gaming.

Playing games and using products from a multi-BILLION dollar company is pretty serious if you ask me. It has tons of serious games on it's consoles. Hell, it has Metal Gear, Tekken, Street Fighter and Res Evil on a "kids" console.

Sure, it doesn't have Assassin's Creed or anything, but Assassin's Creed has haters almost EVERYBODY loves to play good ol' Mario Kart.

Tell me, Crash, what makes gaming serious? Guns and bad language? Nintendo's games are mostly clean, which makes it better.

Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, it's all major videogaming, so I consider it all 'serious'.

Nintendo is, and always will be my favourite gaming brand.

Metroid, Kurby, Mario, Pikman, Pokémon and most all... The Legend of Zelda.

I will tell you now... The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is the best videogame of all time!

Good enough answer!?

Guns and bad language don't make a game serious, but making a console based on holding two remotes and move them around to play is not serious.

Of course, you were able to use a GameCube controller, but the WII was still all about the WII controllers. That where it started to be less serious to me.

I said before, it's my personal opinion.

Nintendo is just a family thing for me nowadays.

I don't even care for Assassins Creed, which is seriously overrated, or any other game like that.

I play games that are nothing near violent. But it just feels different on Nintendo.

For me, Super Mario always stays the same. Same for the other games. A new Pokemon - You get a new region, better graphics, more Pokemon and more stuff...but the gameplay is all the same. I know that game series never change that much, but Nintendo has too many series. Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid, Super Mario, SSB. Those aren't bad games, but they're kinda always the same to me. Yeah, they sometimes try something new, like Paper Mario, but that's it.

Without their popular game series, Nintendo wouldn't be as big as it is now. They rely on it too much. They use Mario to make sure that they sell enough.

It does have a few games like Metal Gear and stuff, yeah, but only because the game company wanted to sell even more. Metal Gear Solid was a PS exclusive and Tekken started on the PS aswell.

Nintendo is major and a big company, but I'm not even talking about that.

Violence, blood, weapons, gore or whatever - Doesn't make it any more serious.

Ocarina of Time was in a time where Nintendo was better. It was great in the past, but now it got old to me.

Zelda always feels the same!? -_-

Wiimotes are innovative, and I don't get how that isn't serious. PlayStation's attempt on their own Wiimote looked like some sort of fucking dildo.

I've lost a lot of respect for you, Wahnsinn.

Yeah, Zelda does always feel the same. Wind Waker was different, but besides that, it does. The games aren't bad, but too similar.

PS Move wasn't even a proper attempt. They just made it to have something aswell. They don't even nee it. I didn't even say that I like PS Move though, so I don't get why you're using that.

Maybe it's innovative, but it's not what I think of when I think of games. It'd be good for a game, but making a whole console for that?
It's good for games like Zelda or something where it makes sense, but why would you use that for almost every game, when it doesn't even make sense.

I do like some Nintendo games, but that doesn't mean I think they're perfect.

You lost a lot of respect for me because I don't agree with what you're saying? Seems legit.

You are basically bashing Nintendo, with saying it isn't serious gaming, thus, saying I am not a serious gamer.

To me, it isn't serious gaming, but I didn't say the people that play the games aren't serious gamers.

I don't see casuals as serious gamers (obviously, but they don't even want to be one), but you're not a casual, are you?

And just to remind you again: I have a WII and every previous Nintendo console aswell.

Besides, Zelda games and some other games are proper games IMO, but what I don't like about them is like I said them being a bit overused.

I personally would define serious gaming as playing a single game for hours on end, for a massive amount of time. So games like World of Warcraft (boo!), Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield Three etc. would all fall into that description. On top of that, you really need a huge fan-base to make the game serious in the first place.

So is Nintendo serious for me? Well not every game they have is. In fact, I can't really think of many at all. That being said, going off the above criteria, they do have the mother of all serious games: Pokemon. I guess Zelda counts too, though I haven't played it.

So I reckon Nintendo can both be serious and casual gaming at the same time.

Why the hell did you boo WoW, but not CoD? What's wrong with you. WoW > CoD

IMO, the time playing a game isn't the only factor that makes it serious, but it is a big one.

And like you said, Pokemon and Zelda definitely are, but I think Nintendo is mostly casual.

I'm more versed in WoW rather than CoD. To be honest I don't really like any of those games though.
