This is a question that's been brought up several times, so I thought I'd make a thread about it.

Do you think that playing on a Nintendo console is serious gaming?

Super Mario Sunshine was a pretty "serious" RPG.

My 3DS has an Activity Log, telling me how long it took me to beat every game.

OoT3D: 99 Hours.
Mario Kart 7: 48 Hours.
Phantom Hourglass: 34 hours.
Spirit Tracks: 36 Hours.
Mario & Sonic: 48 Hours.
Fire Emblem Demo: 48 minutes (Lol).

I guess since I've played them all for hours on end, it makes them serious.

StarFox is also a pretty "serious" seriousies (See what I did there?)

It's kind of so-so...

While I do agree that guns and violence don't make for a serious game, I would like for an established storyline (excluding The Legend Of Zelda, as they already have one) and more character development in most games Nintendo makes.

I am a big fan of Nintendo, but I won't deny some of the faults it has compared to Sony and Microsoft.

Hmm, for me serious games are more games that you just can't finish. Stuff like Runescape or WoW where there's always new stuff being added. Pokemon is almost in the same category since it takes so damn long to finish a Pokedex nowadays :D

My game-time for Pokemon Diamond is pretty close to 40 days, and my Runescape total time is getting close to 75 days.

(Ooh, 3DS's have an activity log? That's neat!)

ToP.....

You just posted your gametime for games like Zelda and Mario. I keep saying that those are the most serious games. I mean other games.

And yeah, StarFox is a serious game aswell. I told you that I'm not talking about the Nintendo giants, like Metroid, Zelda, etc..

I completely agree with what Venustoise said. :P

And Crash, you're not just thinking of the serious games, you're thinking of the addicting games haha. I know you mean though. They are serious to me aswell, but they're too serious.
I know I spent a lot time in WoW when I still played it. I'm glad I don't know how much lol.
Same for Pokemon.

Not much going on here.

I don't think playing a Nintendo console constitutes as serious gaming.

Hear me out.

All of Nintendo's games I would consider serious games. It's usually the crappy third-party games that Nintendo allows on their consoles that really ruins it. Basically games that companies either make as "fun for the entire family", or just plain shit games that are poor quality, and thus, can't be considered serious. A good example of both is Carnival Games.

But that's the thing. Not everybody plays "Fun for the family". I pretty much only play "Beat 'em up" and RPGs.

But since I own a 64, Advance, GameCube, Wii, DS, and a 3DS, I wouldn't know what serious was.

No one even said that ALL games aren't serious.

Also, I don't only mean the games, I also mean the way Nintendo looks. The ads and everything make it look like a family thing even more.

You play some of the best games avaiable for Nintendo, so it's not even about you.

Everyone's just got a different opinion as to what qualifies as serious gaming, that's all. The question was if Nintendo fitted in to everyone's definition of it.
