In terms of comedy, Cromartie High School and Pani Poni Dash tend to be quite overlooked, but are actually hilarious. In terms of something more action-y, I dunno, Fairy Tail? |

If you want some great movies, you should check out Summer Wars, and the Girl Who Lept Through Time. Both by the same director. |

I recommend- Gintama. Great comedy featuring some slapstick and some more well set-up jokes. The more action-oriented arcs are extremely well-done and as good as any you'll see in a dedicated action anime and the character development is some of the best I've seen in all anime. Give it 10 and you'll start to see it's at least quite good hopefully. Space Brothers. Basically about 2 brothers one who is 31 and the other one who is a little younger. The younger brother is training in America to be an astronaut which is what both of them as children dreamed of. The older brother is fired from his job after a Zidane-esque assault on his boss and is blacklisted from the motor industry that he had his career in. He's sent an application form for JAXA (the Japanese space agency) and from there his journey to catch up to his younger brother and hopefully lead him like he always thought an older brother should begins. It's a little slow to start with but I recommend you give it up to about episode 11. If you like life puzzles you should enjoy this (by that I mean puzzles you might encounter in every day life such as trying to guess what other people's aims are whether it be your competitor or your examiner). I can also say this series has a greater rate of character development than any other anime I've seen - as in lots of characters are developed very quickly. The series has in the past been praised by NASA for its realism. I second Cromartie High School as a good comedy. The first couple episodes might not be that great but after that I thought it was good. That said I'm still only a few episodes in. I recommend One Piece if you like adventure and diverse action and are also into political series. Most people tend to not really appreciate the political realism of One Piece which becomes more apparent the further on in the series you get. For me that's a big part of what sets it apart from other stuff and why I still consider it my favourite series. The cast is diverse in its goals, personalities and convictions and well-developed. The comedy in parts can be better than most dedicated comedy series for me at least, and it has one of the finest orchestral soundtracks I've heard. I'd recommend giving it at least until the end of the Arlong Arc to pull you in. Also I recommend watching it in Japanese since the voice actors are great. If you do watch it dubbed make sure it's not the 4Kids dub because not watching the series at all is better than that. If you love street-racing/cars you might enjoy Initial D. Daily Lives of High School Boy is similar to Gintama (and shares some of Gintama's production team and voice actors) but it focuses on parodying High School anime. Hare+Guu is another decent comedy. Haibane Renmei is a favourite of mine which is pretty good too, as is Welcome to the NHK! which annoyingly ends in an exclamation mark which I always feel the need to include.... |
