Which Dynasty Warriors game should I get?

Wasn't sure if I should put it in Gaming Help, but I think this section is fine.

Basically, I played a DW game on PS2 when I was younger, can't remember which one.

Now, I played One Piece: PW and other similar games to DW. I played the demo of the Vita one. In general, I know I like DW, without really owning one.

I often wanna get one, but there are so many, that I don't know which one.

First of all, I'd prefer to not pay full price. So, I'm not really thinking about getting the newest one. I think 8 is the newest, so I'm thinking about 6 or 7.

Besides that, I don't really know the difference between DW and Strikeforce and Empires and whatever else there is. So maybe someone doesn't mind to explain a difference, please? :D

Oh, I'm all over this thread :D

Sooo, to start off with, we have all the regular versions of Dynasty warriors:

If you wanna go for the whole nostalgic older experience, get Dynasty Warriors 5. It's slower paced than the other ones, but it's really solid at the same time (just thought I should throw that out there). I wouldn't look back any further than this one though, as it just gets too slow paced. In Dynasty Warriors 3 for example, they combines massive maps with really slow running speed ^o)

Dynasty Warriors 6 is a total revamp of 5, to make it much more faster and exciting (probably because this one is for consoles far superior to the PS2). There's a lot more combos, and a lot more enemies on the map, and probably a little less repetition than in Dynasty Warriors 5.

Dynasty Warriors 7 is, again, a total revamp of 6, mostly because they felt they'd over-complicated everything in the previous title. It's a lot more similar to 5, in the way of how your stats are calculated etc. If you can't afford 8, then I'd definitely get this one.

Dynasty Warriors 8 is similar to 7, but they replaced the leveling system with something much easier. There's also a few more graphical updates, for example you can get covered in dust and crap when you're running around the map. If you can afford it, I'd definitely get this one.

Dynasty Warriors: Empires is an expansion available for all titles beyond Dynasty Warriors 4. It makes it so you can take over territories in the quest to eventually conquer china. It's kinda fun I guess.

Dynasty Warriors: Xtreme Legends and Dynasty Warriors: Special are all expansions that add more stuff to the game. They don't really focus on anything specific like Empires does.

Then we got Strikeforce:

Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce is basically an online version of Dynasty Warriors which uses an RPG-style leveling system rather than other versions of Dynasty Warriors. I haven't played it, and to be honest I don't think it's really worth it.

And then Samurai Warriors..:

This is like Dynasty Warriors, only based more on Japanese events rather than Chinese. I like the combo's in this better than any other Dynasty Warriors game, but it's kinda lacking in everything else. If you do wanna go down this path, I'd go for Samurai Warriors 3, as all the other titles are very outdated.

And then Warriors Orochi..:

This is my most favourite series out of all of them, mostly because it combines Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors with all this mystical magic s*** that really gets me going :D

First of all, thanks for the great answer.

You explained it really good, but now you made it more difficult for me to decide.

I can afford DW 8, but I feel like I got too many games recently and don't want to buy something full price.

From what you've said, I'm thinking about DW 6 and 7 or Warriors Orochi.

I quickly watched a video of Strikeforce and it doesn't look so nice, even though it sounded good.

Empires sounds and looks nice, but I didn't see the difference to the regular DW.

So, maybe DW7/Empires?

Eh, personally I'd go just for a vanilla Dynasty Warriors game first if you've never played it that much. the Empires games expand on the prior knowledge you get from their respective games, and can get really confusing if you dunno what's what.

But yeah it's up to you. And Dynasty Warriors 7 is a great choice!

Yeah, then most likely that.

Not sure when I'd get it thought. Right now, I can't really be bothered to go outside. lol

But yeah, I'll say what I'll think of it.

Thanks again. :D
