what
Is that the GCN version of Advance Wars?

Kinda. It's a spin-off of sorts; it's original title was Advance Wars: Under Fire, but the developer changed the name to Battalion Wars because they wanted to make sure that people didn't buy it looking for a turn-based strategy game and to distance it from the AW/FW series in general.

It's a weird combination of a third-person shooter and a real-time strategy game. You get your troops and whatnot, and switch between them using the C-stick. You then go about the level doing whatever you're supposed to, positioning troops and issuing orders and whatnot.

Oh, like a Modern, beefed-up version of Dynasty Warriors.

Neat. I'm sold, I like blowing shit up.

It's not quite DW; there's more strategy than that. It's not much, but supposedly there's a lot of troop management. Like, one troop says that they're doing badly, so you switch to controlling them and move them out of the way, and then you bring your bazooka guy around to cover them while your infantry flanks the enemy. I doubt it'll ever get that complicated, but it COULD happen, the way it's set up.

Ahh, ok, so, Ring of Red meets Starcraft meets Samurai Warriors meets Battlefield 2.

That article just kept getting better and better until...

Certainly the biggest disappointment with Battalion Wars is that it doesn't have any multiplayer mode whatsoever

A game like this NEEDS multiplayer :(

I know, that really bothered me. Though split-screen multiplayer wouldn't really have been able to do this game justice.

Nintendo mentioned that they are considering a sequel, and it would more likely than not be on the Revolution, and seeing as how Nintendo is all "Wewt 4 WiFi!" now, that'll most definetely have multiplayer.

It's funny how my prediction came true.

Anyway, I got a copy of BW on Black Friday for $15, and I finally got a chance to play it. It's pretty fun. The controls are kind of annoying; while using the C-stick to select your troops works beautifully, it means that you can't aim with the C-stick, and while the auto-aim is pretty good, selecting troops can be difficult. Also, vehicles are kind of floaty and your turning is sort of funky when you're infantry. My biggest problem is probably how even though the character selection works smoothly, battles go so fast and so much is going on that by the time you try to change troops/move them/etc. the need is probably gone. Hopefully that's just me being bad for my first three missions, though.
