I've been playing the game a lot recently. It's incredibly addicting, and I'm really liking the plot so far. (I'm still wondering how people can say there's no plot. Either there's a point after which nothing happens or people had their eyes closed during the literally hours of cutscenes.) The writing and atmosphere are positively fantastic. I just can't believe how good the translation is. My only criticism of the story is that there doesn't seem to be any particular reason for people like, say, Vaan and Penelo to be a part of it, but, meh, event-based stories don't bother me. The gameplay is great, but, again, I have one criticism: Quickenings. They're like the Guts and Auto-Item of FFXII. Just like in Valkyrie Profile, Quickenings make normal boss fights incredibly easy (The last boss I fought, Judge Ghis, went down in one chain, for example), but the special fights (Elite Hunts) have some really broken mechanics to compensate. Still, unless something goes horribly wrong in the rest of the game, I think it's pretty safe to declare this my favorite main-series FF (I'll have to replay FFT some time to see whether FFXII edges it out). |

For those of you trying to hunt Fafnir I have found out how to make him appear. "You can force a snowstorm by talking to the client, Relj. Upon exiting Bur-Omisace to Freezing Gorge head west to Head of the Silverflow and then south to Icebound Flow. In Icebound Flow take the SE exit to Karydine Glacier and then take the nearby SW exit to Silverflow's End(dead end part)." I wish I had known that ealier. Would have saved me hours of running around -_-;; I knew there was something screwy about the weather in that first zone outside of Mt bur Omisace from time to time. |
