Man, I can't believe my luck. My PS2 totally broke down (you know, due to it being modified and stuff). So like, only a few games work. Namely, Gradius V (yay!), Bomberman Hardball (my siblings play), SMT: Nocturne (YES) and SMT: Devil Summoner. All...um..."copies" of their respective games, if you know what I mean. The irony is that my totally legit games, such as Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Digital Devil Saga 2, don't work. How fucked up is that? Okay, back to the point. Devil Summoner. An Action RPG that features random battles and the gimmick is that, just like the SMT games, you can get demons on your side to aid you inbattle. Difference is, only one, and of course, that it's so totally NOT turn based. Anyways, it's a pretty good game. Not uber spectacular or anything (yet), but definitely fun and should be checked out. If I have one pretty major gripe, it's simply this: YOU BACKTRACK FAR TOO MUCH |

i thought we already had a devil summoner thread? not like it was seeign any use. it's good to hear someone else talkign about the game though. i thought eveyrone passed it over for tales of the abyss or valkyrie profile 2. it's amazing how much more tolerable item fetching and talking to random people is when the main character is a detective. the cat does point out the absurdities of the game a little too muc hthough. no need to draw attention to the obvious. if i had a complaint, it would be the shoddy ai. demons are on "spam the fuck out of your spells on everythign you see" by default, and you have to change the commands every time in battle because there's no way to change or refine their default strategy. i also see them casting spells on enemies that are already dead way too often. not too bad overall. looking forward to see where this one goes. i'm alreayd running around an alternate history 1930's edo with a japanese forge spirit as my strongarm and fetching wine for a tarresque. |

If there is another thread, I must've skipped it in my haste...I mean, excitement... Anyways, what I hate is that healing spells are a priority WAAAY too much. If my main character had a whopping 3 HP less than the total, my demon would see fit to heal my hero first before kicking the enemy's ass. |

I finished the game today. The backtracking and fetch quests were annoying, but they don't last the whole game. The A.I. is pretty dumb, and I had to hold their hand to get anything done right. Oh, and the final dungeon is really cool- maybe in my top ten final dungeons. Overall it's a solid game, but it's no Nocturne or DDS. I'd give it a 8/10. |

I'll take some time with .hack//G.U and then I'll be sure to play this. I mean I did bother to spend the money so I might as well play it. |

Around 37 hours. I constantly left it on while doing things and powerleveled at the end, though. You can probably finish it in less than 30 hours. |

I'm dying for this game... I just have to order it from Amazon now. Everything that I've heard does absolutely nothing to deter me from purchasing it any longer. I probably won't be playing it for a while, though. There's just too much to do. :\ |

I have so many games to buy--this, Contact, FFXII, and I'm still not that far in VP2. And I have a ton going on at school. Gah

I'm about 5 hours into it and enjoying it. Definetely Nocturne "light", but I like the story thus-far sadly enough as it reminds me a lot of film noir. |

I've got about 6 - 8 hours in on this game, but between school, my massive backlog, and needing to finish another game before I start FFXII in a week or so, I haven't made much progress. Pretty cool game so far though, and I like how they did a bit more this time to integrate the demons into the gameplay outside of battle. |

Don't know if you guys knew or not but Devil Summoner is $29.99 new now! Seems like most of you already own it, but at that price I may pick it up also. |

I hate myself for impulse-buying this the day it came out, only to have FFXII and Zelda chain-release their way into my game time. |
