...... I can't friggin wait to play this game.

EDIT: It got a 9.0 from IGN. Woot!

It comes out tomorrow?! I thought I had at least a week. Oh well, I guess that's a good thing then.

Man, the Metal Gear games always 'wow' me with their sleek interfaces.

I can barely tell what's going on in the videos and the summary doesn't help. Is it like, a squad-based Metal Gear? A Metal Gear RTS? Whatever it is, it looks freaking awesome.

And it's a continuation of Snake Eater. Gaaaaah! Why does this have to be on the PSP?

Metal Gear Solid on PSP.

Not DS vs PSP.

I think we're grossly overdue for one of those topics though...

It's Metal Gear Solid in the same style as the console, only you actually use squads for reconaissance, weapon creation, etc. This imo is a brilliant move, since all those things (i.e. recon for intelligence, creating new weapons) are handed to you by other people in the other games (well, some weapons were found, but you get my drift). However, from what I understand it's not one giant area like the other MGSs, but rather multiple smaller areas where you can get story and side missions (apparently doing JUST the story missions takes 20 hours, and there are over several dozen side missions). That's not to say that it's level based and you can ONLY do those missions; it's just that the individual maps are smaller so that each mission will only take a short amount of time (which is great, since its a portable game). If you dont want to do a mission, you could always coerce an enemy to join your team : D

And I have an idea why they are doing it on PSP: They are already putting a ton of resources onto the PS3 with MGS4, and if they had tried implementing the MGS:PO story in a console version, it would be rather difficult because A) it would be harder (if not impossible) to implement the soldier recruitment system as easily as it is done on the PSP (you can just go to any wifi spot or use the GPS to get a new person), and I'm guessing Kojima and Co. were worried that it would be released to late to get the number of sales that the other games received because it would have had to be on the PS2 (since all the PS3 resources are, as I said before, being dedicated to MGS4) and if they released the game too late the majority of hte fans would have switched to the next gen consoles.

And actually, it's rather fitting. The major consoles are getting the "True" MGS games (the ones with numbers in them and advance the main story), while the PSP is getting the games that are "filler" in the sense that it fills up the gaps in the MGS timeline (how did Big Boss end up the way he did, how was foxhound created, etc). If this game sells well, they are planning on doing a PSP sequel.

I did NOT make this topic for a PSP versus DS debate/flame war. If you want that, go to GameFAQs/Gamespot; they are notorious for it, and I enjoy this place because it (normally) DOES NOT break out into that BS in completely irrelevant topics like you are doing now. I have heard so much crap about PSP vs DS and the next gen war that I'm rather tired of it. I own both, and both have its ups and downs. Everything else is opinion and no one will win, and the argument will just go on and on and ruin the topic. Now stop it.

You win +1 Internet points.

Seriously, come on guys, you know better. I apologize for deleting your posts, but last thing we need is a flame war.

I could really care less about my posts being moderated; Just really lucky I didn't go all out.

And I do see the aspects of PSP->PS3 connectivity being a driving force behind the Metal Gear development on the PSP; that and the studio is already experienced with developing for the archetecture with the Acid subseries.

No I know, but... the real reason is so others don't wander in here and drag it on any further. Nothing personal, but of course you know that :P

This sounds like an interesting game though, although I doubt it's the PSP's killer app... While a console's system seller is pretty obvious (Halo, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, Zelda, Metroid Prime, etc.) I don't think any handheld has any ONE game that justifies a purchase, like Utops said before.

Well, people can't see that because you deleted my post instead of splitting the thread ;)

I wasn't console-warring which I do not particularly enjoy participating in, but I was flaming and therefore in measure of being moderated.

Anyways, I'm out for the night, and prolly a good while - peace.

I don't care if it's on a console or not, I'm lamenting that it's on the PSP which I don't have as opposed to the DS or something XD. I'm aware the DS probably couldn't handle it, though.

Sony just likes to tease me endlessly by releasing awesome games on its handheld when I will not get one on principle. It eats away at my resolve like a butterknife. Endlessly...
Endlessly...

*adds it to his 'search this out when the PSP gets dirt cheap' list*

....So I got it. Yeah. I will now apologize in advance for the swearing I am about to do.

Holy. Shit. How the hell did Kojima Productions pack so much awesomeness into such a tiny package?! I mean seriously, the graphics are the BEST I've seen on the PSP (beating out Syphon Filter and emulating the console graphics surprisingly well), the music is awesome, the gameplay - while different thanks to the comrade system - is still MGS-esque.... the list just goes on. My particular favorite thing to do is recruit people by detecting access points around me. Don't ask me why, but it's just fun not knowing who will be recruited thanks to this feature.

I picked up MGS:PO and Castlevania Portrait of Ruin within two days of each other, almost done with the latter and then I plan on playing MGS:PO.

Only did the first mission and want to start recruiting other characters. Don't know how the mechanics work on that, if the soldier you get is random or always the same depending on which one you grab. I'll have to read up on it.
