Anyone have this yet (on X360 or PC)? I'd like some opinions if you do, as I'm going to be getting it in 2 days or so. I've always been a fan of Rainbow Six, so naturally Lockdown was... insulting, to say the least, and I'm glad to hear that this game returns the series back to it's (tactical) roots. Well, if no one currently owns it, I'll be glad to post impressions once I get around to playing it. |

Fooled around this game for a couple of hours. I'll split my impressions in pros and cons, since most likely only R6 fans will even look at this topic, so I imagine you know what the games are like. Pros -Excellent graphics. Probably the best I've ever experienced myself. -Great action; firefights are always intense. -Cover system works flawlessly. -Teammate AI can handle itself (most of the time anyway). -Tutorial levels aren't boring. -Easier to breach doors and assign commands. Cons -No more planning. -Doesn't feel like a Rainbow Six game. -Doesn't start out in Vegas. -Voice acting. I'd go so far to say that... while the game is very well done and highly polished, it's not Rainbow Six. Ubisoft should have named it something else, because Rainbow Six fans will go in expecting something a bit more tactical and they'll get a terrorist shooting spree. But alas, the old Rainbow Six is gone, and Vegas has taken over. And finally, -The obligatory gameplay video- |

I can't really comment on anything regarding the entire Rainbow Six franchise, or the genre of FPS, or anything of that short. However, the graphics are GREAT. Artistically a little blah, this is true, but technically polished and accomplished. The covering system does look pretty excellent for an FPS... from what I've seen of other shooters, covering often involves finding the perfect angle to hide behind the box, and awkwardly shooting around corners. The whole third-person for cover, and over-the-shoulder for shooting while covered really was intriguing to me. Whenever I watch videos of Ren or anyone else playing, I get instant jealousy at everyone's skillz. |
