Anybody played this gem besides me? Obviously, it's for the DS and only out in Japan right now but I ask because it's fully translated as an alternate language mode. Import recently arrived as a gift and I've pretty much been enjoying it all of tonight. It's really solid stuff; even better than the first game too.

It introduces a new system that lets you 'Cross Examine' people during the investigation phases. If someone is lying to hide something important from you, you'll immediately know by getting a psychic 'vibe' that involves chains suddenly appearing, surrounding them and then being padlocked with a number of psychic locks. You're supposed to break through these locks by disproving their lies with evidence until they finally give in and reveal the truth.

When I saw it in the trailer I thought it was kinda gimmicky, but the execution is really nice. Of course, the court scenarios are just as good as they were in PW1 to boot. The first case especially was impressive for being what it was.

The translation is about as good as 1's was, save for some really strange spelling errors that pop up on occasion. I think the same translator did this game, because the writing style and localization tendencies are pretty much the same. I wonder if the english release is going to touch some of this stuff up, though; after all, a text adventure with text errors doesn't look good to most people.

Now that I've finished babbling about PW2 for this post, if you guys haven't played it I'll post a different question; what did you guys think of Phoenix Wright 1 as a whole?

I was very tempted to make it the first game I ever imported, but I figured I could just wait for the English version. I heard that there's a decent chance the typos will be fixed up for the English version anyway, so I can wait another month for that.

Anyway, I absolutely adored PW1. The game does a fantastic job of balancing hilarious writing and deliciously convoluted murder mystery drama. I would also say it probably has the best translation of any game I've ever played. The gameplay is a little simple and easy, but the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

Suffice to say, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is my favorite portable game ever, and Justice for All will be the next game I preorder.

Yeah, by this point you'd really get it much faster if you just waited for the english release anyway.

The typos aren't that big a deal, at any rate. I've seen mostly little odd mispellings; no real grammar issues. And it's especially nothing that detracts from the story in a major way. It'd be nice if they did fix them, but if they didn't it won't be a huge loss.

I've heard that at a really climactic point in one of the cases, someone declares, "The miracle never happen"...heh.

I wish this game would just hurry up and come out in English already. That and it's got the most awesome pre-order bonus ever. A DS stylus that is tipped with Phoenix's pointed finger from his "Objection!" pose within the game. How sweet is that?

I'm going to ask the guys at my local GameStop if they're getting any and I'm going to make double sure to pre-order the game tommorow if they are. ^_^

I heartily recommend doing so ^_^. It's like this game is 1.2x the awesome.

It's not quite double the awesome because it's only four cases long and they ditched all the DS stuff they did in PW1 Case 5; but it's still awesome 'cause it's Phoenix Wright damn it.

That seemed gimmicky and somewhat irritating to me, although the case itself was hard core badass.

I agree, except for the "point out inconsistencies in the video" part. That could've only been done on the DS and was actually a pretty neat use of it.

Yeah exactly... I was suprised at how fluid that video was!

But as usual, I'm highly anticipating this one. PW:AA was just too good for words, and I just can't wait to see what will possibly happen next in the series.

Four cases? That's fine.. Carbunkle, how long are they?

Only one I didn't really care for was the fingerprints blowing one (then again, any developer that thinks blowing into your DS' microphone and hoping it triggers their lackluster detection is fun needs to be shot) but I liked the spraying for blood and the video in the courtroom. The latter I'll agree was really neat and well-done.

You won't be disappointed ^^. I've liked all the cases I've played.

Case 1 was as long as Case 1 in PW1
Case 2 was around PW1 Case 3's length.
Case 3 was around PW1 Case 4's length.
And Case 4 matches out Case 5 in PW1 by a nudge.

One thing I will note though is that the first 3 cases, while good, are kind of...formulaic after playing the first game. I won't really say much else for fear of spoiling it, but there WERE a few moments where I went 'Haven't I done this once already? O_o'.

At least they start laying off on the Deus Ex Mia that was all over part 1.
