Interesting. Now I'm glad I have access to a DS as soon as my mom gets bored with Brain Age.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of info on it just yet so I'll reserve judgement just yet but I was a little disappointed with it being an action RPG. I think on a more powerful format an action RPG featuring enemies so massive they have buildings on them would be great, but I think it's a bit overly ambitious for the DS.

Square Enix presents a new multi-player RPG for the Nintendo DS and it’s called Blood of Bahamut. The crux of the conflict in the game is man versus giant beasts. Ibuki, the male character in the trailer, is fighting Gigant, a towering castle creature that was once Ibuki’s home. Ibuki and Yui, a woman who also lived on Gigant, set out to tame the enraged giants.

And Gigant is pissed. In the clip Gigant hurls boulders and shoots lasers out of his eyes. Ibuki can dispatch regular monsters with his sword, but Gigant will only fall if you hit weak spots (a la Shadow of the Colossus). Sometimes players will need to break parts of the giant off to reveal a weak point. Gigant won’t be the only giant you’ll fight. He is just one part of the 130+ missions in Blood of Bahamut. Missions are split into story missions and free play, both types can be played cooperatively with up to four people.

The idea is cool, but a DS, really?

Not that I'm against the DS but I figure it'd take a relatively strong system to pump a game like this out and DS' track record with demanding games isn't all that awesome.

Still dope. Gameplay footage?

In the link. It's 3D but with sprites for regular (read: non-giant) enemies and characters, which probably helps.

Ah, I thought the original link was for the Jap website (with menu but nothing that I can figure out). Sorry about that.

Game looks...good enough to play, but I can't help but feel that you'd b e missing out on a huge sense of atmosphere/scale doing it the way it's been done now.

Mind you, SotC suffered the same problem (if nothing else, the jittery fps).

SotC was a game that really should have been on the PS3. The first fifteen minutes had me awestruck, and then I couldn't stop getting irritated by all of the pop-up and framerate slowdowns.

Few more screens and a bit of news - http://news.dengeki.com/elem/000/000/136/136323/

Apparently they ran a competition for readers to submit weapon names for use in the game, and due to the amount of decent responses they've added more than originally intended.

I'm talking about Motomu Toriyama, the head writer for FFX, director/head writer for FFX2, director of FFXII: Revenant Wings and director/head writer for FFXIII.
