what
Seems like MadWorld is actually good.

I mean, it's kinda depressing to think it's the ONLY good Wii game that's come out in like, 8 months, but something is better than nothing!

And maybe it'll motivate developers to create better things.

hopefully :)

PS: Whatever happened to that Disaster game?

Red Steel and the Wii port of Far Cry have been out for quite some time.

XD

Disaster came out in Japan and Europe, but Reggie didn't like it so it didn't come out anywhere else. It ended up being very arcade/rail shooter-y.

madworld interests me greatly with the potential of a spiritual seque lto god hand, but clover is 1 for three so far in my book and i don't feel like dropping the money on a wii without proof positive this game will rock my damn face off in the same way god hand did.

hay rumour did you ever play kororinpa? it's one of the only other wii games i super want.

The only thing I am put off by with Mad World is that the main protagonist looks like a combination of Marv from Sin City, Cid from FFVII and Marcus Fenix from Gears. Not that any of those are necessarily bad characters, it just unsettles me.

Also, shit I need to play God Hand.

you really do. i don't know if everyone would agree, but in my mind god hand is so deep and satisfyingly difficult that viewtiful joe barely has a reason to exist anymore.

GAWD HAAAAAAANNND!!!

Everyone should play God Hand. It is by far Clover's best game. This is coming from someone who thoroughly enjoyed Okami. I have it tied with Ninja Gaiden Black and DMC 3 as my favorite action title of the previous generation.

It really shows the versatility and talent of Clover. They make excellent hardcore (God Hand) and casual AAA (Okami) styled games. I cannot wait to see Ren's impressions of Mad World.

sharc, that's a pretty heavy choice of words you got there, considering how much I adore Viewtiful Joe. But it does intrigue me even more so. Is God Hand hard to find? I assume when I do look for it it'll be like, three dollars seeing as those idiots practically give Clover games away for free.

god hand is like viewtiful joe with variants of fire leo as every single enemy, and you only get enough vfx for about one five second burst per stage.

it's fucking awesome.

what
Sin City meets Manhunt meets Fighting Force?

It's a classic beat-em-up, that's for sure, only with hyperviolence and gore added into the picture.

You go around various levels racking up points until you have enough to challenge the boss, once defeated the level ends. Combat itself is satisfying and not quite repetitive as some other games of the same genre since there are a wide array of moves and environmental hazards you can use against your enemies, and the game encourages you to be creative with the way you kill. For example, you can throw a garbage can on top of an enemy then toss him into a toilet; uppercut him and then impale him with your chainsaw or simply stick a signpost into his neck then break his body in half.

Tapping A is the standard attack, used to daze the enemy. Holding B activates your chainsaw which more or less 1-shots lesser enemies. Swinging the remote is used for more powerful attacks and QTEs. These QTEs are waggle-happy but they are quite generous (for example, it can tell you to swing the remote up, but swinging it any direction works).

There are also time limits but it's nothing to worry about. Also scattered throughout the levels are challenges which you earn you bonus points. These are entertaining, and involve things like "throw the bad guys into a turbine" and "throw the bad guys into moving trains".

Yeah, it's incredibly violent. There's no shortage of enemies being dismembered, put on fire, exploding, crushed, etc. etc. It's honestly the most violent game I've ever played.

Graphics are awesome, and the music surprisingly fits the atmosphere.

The one thing I had a problem with is (surprise) the camera. It's just flying all over the place and can be very disorienting at times.

Anyway, it's fun stuff, and something the Wii sorely needed.

EDIT: Played some more, and it's refreshing to see boss battles being on the short side (less than 3 minutes).

Some more insight:

There's a couple of commentators doing a play-by-play of your every action, and while hilarious at times, it tends to repeat itself. Still, it's unique for each challenge and boss battle. And boss finishers are so over the top, I have got to wonder about the mental state of the developers of this game (or mine, since I rather enjoy them).

As you rack up more and more points, you gain access to special weapons that further increase the points you gain by killing enemies. But giant bull-men also show up and they are considerably harder to kill, although you sometimes gain an extra life if you take them down.
