what
Cause I just bought one.

Already own:

-KILLZONE 2
-Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction
-Soul Calibur 4

Not interested in:

-NON EXCLUSIVE GAMES (unless it's console exclusive). I ALREADY HAVE A PC FOR SF4 AND RE5 AND ALL THAT OTHER BULLSHIT.
-MGS4
-Motorstorm
-JRPG's that are not Demon's Souls or FF13.

Partially interested in:

-Uncharted
-Valkyria Chronicles

Might end up buying:

-Wipeout HD

Yes, lists were necessary.

I'm not sure what else is available that's fun to play. Mainly purchased it for Demon's Souls, teehee.

But yeah, any resident PS3 owners, offer your solid gold advice?

edited op, picked up r&c an hour ago.

Thanks KK, I love Wipeout and totally did not know HD existed. Will totally pick it up (or legally download apparently). Uncharted doesn't seem to retail for under $35 used even, so I'll wait it out since there's nowhere I can rent games here. Kinda want to play it before Uncharted 2, though.

Isn't LittleBigPlanet's value entirely dependant on the community?

edit: anyone tried infamous yet?

I haven't been kept up to date cause the cousin's PS3 is currently in another state, but people (ie other forums) tell me that Infamous is a great open world game.

I don't know much else besides apparently it's addictive. However, some people said they're holding out for Prototype, which has a PC release so I dunno.

About RPGs, you're not interested in Valkyria Chronicles at all? Just wondering, cause I played a bit and the game is really fun. Might be guilty of your JRPG criteria though, if you consider it one.

Yeah holding out for Prototype, which seems to be getting great early reviews.

Also, decided to purchase Soul Calibur 4, duh.

Dunno about Valkyria Chronicles, might look into it, but I'd rather put my money into something safer like Wipeout. Wish there was a demo for this sorta thing.

and thanks, i appreciate the suggestions.

Well, I'll just give you a rough idea of how Valkyria Chronicles plays.

It's basically a tactical RPG, you see character/vehicle positions on the map.

Selecting a character will use up an action for the turn, and any leftover actions can be carried over for the next turn. Your tank takes two action points (action points may not be the term, but you get the idea).

Once you select a character, you go down to a third person view. In this mode, your job is to maneuver your character to where they need to go, and their movement is limited by a bar at the bottom of the screen, with how bar length being dependant on the character. During this time, enemies will automatically shoot at you if go into their line of fire, so picking a bad path is an easy KO. Same goes for when the enemy is moving.

You can choose to duck behind cover if you wish, giving you bonus points to evasion, climb ladders to get a higher position, etc.

After you're in position, you can choose to do something, be it to heal yourself, your ally, repair your tank, disarm mines, or shoot the enemy. When you choose to shoot the enemy all enemy shots stop, giving you time to perfectly aim your shots. However, even then, depending on the weapon, accuracy is different. For instance the sniper is super accurate but isn't that steady, whereas the rifle is steady and accurate for most ranges except for long range.

Then there are the types of units. You have the scout that can see far and move far equipped with rifles, shocktroopers that decimate in close range combat and have high health but can't move far, snipers that don't move much but have a gun that practically OHKOs any infantry, and lancers that are anti-vehicular, while finally the engineers are there to repair your tank and disarm traps. There are probably others but I've only got up to chapter 7 or so. :P

Permadeath is also in the game. Although knocked out characters can be rescued by having a PC get over there and help them, they can also be permanently killed if the enemy gets to them first. Incapacitated characters can be brought back onto the field at any base that you command, though it will take an action point and a turn before they return.

You get a huge number of units though, and they differ by not just their stats, but by their innate abilities. Some do better when they're in front of others, some better going at it all Rambo, some in certain terrain conditions, etc.

Leveling up is done in between missions, by spending points at your training center. You level up whole classes at a time, so no need to worry if you're favouring a certain scout over another one. However, it does bring up the issue of if you want a balanced build or if you want to specialise in certain types of units.

That's the base gameplay in a nutshell. There's a lot more to it, but that hopefully is enough to give you an idea of if you want it or not.

LittleBigPlanet's value is indeed entirely dependent on the community. There's so many awesome levels out there, it's one of the best console purchases I've made. The online multiplayer just makes it addicting - especially if you're playing with a group of friends (online or offline).

Ok Dark, since you insist, I'll check it out, sounds interesting.

There actually IS a playable demo for it, and pretty much every PS3 game, too. Awesome.

I really like Valkyria Chronicles too, and I am not a fan of JRPGs.

Obviously Gran Tursimo Prologue is really good. It should be easy enough to find a cheap copy.

I'll insist MGS4 is worth playing. It seems like no one is willing to stick up for the game because it makes you uncool. Again, it's easy to find cheap.

I really didn't like Uncharted. The dialog and characters were great. Otherwise I wasn't impressed.

I also hated the demo of inFamous, but I'm a cranky old man sometimes.

My PSN is smh17, if peoples want to add me.

Adding you to psn, mine is Ace3kd.

Played a skirmish of the Valkyria Chronicles demo. Interest has raised a bit but probably not enough to purchase.

And yeah, I really didn't like the inFAMOUS demo. Camera was annoying as hell.

GT5 Prologue though, honestly is it worth it? Isn't the real game coming out sometime soon anyway?

MGS4 is getting the GH treatment soon, I suppose for $20, can't go wrong.

No date was given for GT5. It was merely "announced". I don't expect it for at least a year. But I've been wrong before.

I guess it depends on how much of a racing fan you are. Racing is my favorite genre, so GT5:P is worth it for me. Maybe you're more patient than I.

I do love me some racing games (GRID is great), but I'm also a lot more patient. Would rather wait for the full game than what is I guess a glorified demo.
