All right, so I have some gift card money left over and I've been wanting to buy some Final Fantasy music with it. The only thing that prevents me from doing so is a memory of a time when I bought 2 songs a long time ago (one from FFVII, the other from FFX), and was disappointed to learn that they were both .m4p files, the "P" standing for "protected", meaning I'm not allowed to move the file outside of the device I downloaded the song on. Does anyone have any recent experience in buying music from the series? In particular, there are songs from Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy X-2 that I would like to purchase. But if I can't put them on my MP3 player, I'm not going to mess with it. |

I don't know how it pertains to the FF music, but I do know that iTunes has gotten better over the years about DRM Free tracks. I've been able to open and even edit several things that I've bought over the last 3-4 years in various editing software that older iTunes tracks aren't able to be opened in, so there's that. Personally, I own most of my FF music on disc and have only purchased the X-2 soundtrack from iTunes. EDIT: Looks like they largely did away with DRM back in 2009, so you should be good to go. The file extensions should be .m4a, if I'm not mistaken. There are also programs out there that can remove any DRM from tracks you might already own, but those may be a bit of a dice roll. That's wonderful to hear! Thanks! I too enjoy buying FF soundtracks on disc (FFVII, FFX, FFXII), but in the case of Final Fantasy IX, I think I'd be happier with a select number of tracks than necessarily the whole thing. If I have enough left over, I'd like to buy the full Final Fantasy X-2 soundtrack; it's received a lot of criticism, but I love it despite it not having been composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Don't even get me started on the Zanarkand track. <3

I don't have a whole lot of FF music but what I do have I bought the CDs. Well I sort of take that back, the only CD I've really bought was the FF XI sound track. I have bonus CDs of FF music from collector's editions like FF XIII. I want to buy the FF X/X-2 CE for that as well but I really don't want the PS 3 version of the game, only the Vita version interests me. Sadly the CE is only for the PS 3 version. |

I love the X-2 soundtrack, criticism be damned . It fits the overall mood of the game so well and has a ton of KNOCKOUT tracks. The orchestral arrangement of "1000 Words" is beautiful, as is "Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~," which is sadly absent from the iTunes version of the soundtrack. Other than that, I have the VII, VIII, IX, and X OSTs on disc. I still want to get XII and XIII at the very least. I didn't really enjoy XIII (still haven't finished, haha), but I do really like the music. |

No "Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~"? So you're saying it's on the CD version and not the iTunes version? Wow, they really want people to fork over $55 as opposed to $16.

That's what it looks like. I had a physical copy at one point, but I have no idea what happened to it. I usually prefer to purchase my music digitally these days, but having hard copies of these OSTs feels kinda special, ya know? |

I do! I always liked having a tangible copy of my music since I know if anything happens to my computer, my MP3 player, and my external hard drive all at once, I know that I still have the CD to back it up with. It's really sad to know that record companies are pushing CD's out the window in favor of digital music as the sole means to buy music. But man! Don't you hate it when a soundtrack is incomplete? For instance, the Ni no Kuni soundtrack is missing a couple of very crucial songs, including the generic boss theme. Or what about one of my favorite film scores, The Mummy Returns? The soundtrack is missing EVERYTHING from the last quarter of the film: no Rick VS. Imhotep, no Scorpion King track, and worst of all, no end credits. So in other words, my soundtrack is missing this beauty:Edited by DAXRULZ, Jan 24 2014, 11:25 AM.

https://store.eu.square-enix.com/emea_europe/merchandise/FINAL-FANTASY-VII-Vinyl-Limited-Edition.php OH DEAR GOD. If this were available in the US, it would be game on. I can't even express how sad this makes me. |

How is it available in Europe and not here? If anything, it would make more sense for it to be exclusive to Japan. EDIT: Edited by DAXRULZ, Jan 25 2014, 12:44 AM.
