As the title implies, share with the community the most recent movie you watched, tell us a little bit about it (preferably without spoilers), and tell us if you recommend others to see it. Most recently, I finally got around to seeing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I was not particularly impressed with the book, but it definitely made for a fine movie. Part of the book's problem was that there wasn't a whole lot that was going on in the entire first half, but as I expected, the movie condensed the first half all while giving its events a more engaging atmosphere. I even thought the rest of the movie was better than how the book handled it--the book partially acted as a clone to the first one, but the movie held a different tone compared to the first movie so that it still felt fresh. I definitely recommend it if your theater is still showing it. Now I wonder how the Mockingjay movie(s) will be. All around, I thought the book was quite awful with an even more awful ending. Personally, I hope they make drastic changes because the book was not particularly exciting or well-planned. The movie is going to be split into 2 parts (of course)...which is cringe-worthy at the moment because there is NOT a lot that happens in the book, period. I can only hope the production team will make its own creative decisions to improve upon the book in a wide variety of ways. Edited by DAXRULZ, Dec 16 2013, 02:30 PM.

I saw the Hunger Games sequel recently too. I haven't read the books, and only watched the first movie shortly before seeing the second, so the whole series is new to me. It's good to know that even NA follows the trilogy rule of ending the second part on a cliffhanger. I'm somewhat tempted to read the books now, but since I'm also waiting for the third parts of Corpse Party and Zero Escape, I'm no stranger to cliffhanger endings, and have learned to deal with them. |

I saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug yesterday. It was much better than An Unexpected Journey, but somehow the theater was still packed despite the fact that the movie's been out for 2 weeks. My family and I were forced to sit in the front row where fast-paced sequences are difficult to follow. I'll certainly be looking forward to my home viewing experience where the frame isn't so close. I was quite shocked at where the movie decided to end, though, considering the fact that it ended so close to the end of the book. I don't fully understand what they're planning for There and Back Again in 2014. |

I recently watched The Wolverine. Loved it. My wife and I saw Thor: A Dark World for our 15th anniversary back in November. I have Despicable Me 2 to watch next, as well as the Doctor Who movie from the 1990s. I will be buying Catching Fire when it releases. I paid for my daughter and her friend to watch it when it released but did not join them. (She wasn't on a date with a boy.) This year I'll probably see more movies in a theater than I have in years. Captain America 2 is coming out as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past (I think that's the title) and there's another movie or two that I'm having trouble remembering at the moment. My wife and I might see a movie a year in a theater. Not usually worth the price of admission but some movies simply must be seen in a theater

I just got around to seeing Jack the Giant Slayer. Honestly, it was a pretty decent flick. It certainly deserved to have done better when it was in theaters. Poor marketing is to blame, because let's be fair, the trailers looked terrible. |

Just saw American Hustle last night. Wonderful performances all around, especially from Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper. The story places the viewer in a bit of a moral gray area as well, moreso than many other movies with a similar plot point. I'd highly recommend it. |

I command all of you to see The Secret World of Arrietty! Now! I honestly liked it better than Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, which I liked a lot; I did not expect this movie to surpass my love for either of them.

I just got back from seeing Frozen. For a movie that's been out for nearly two months, I'm surprised that the theater was still packed full of people! The movie was pretty good, but I thought it was a little heavy with music. I feel like there were a couple of songs that could have been omitted when a simple conversation would have sufficed. I get that Elsa was played by Idina Menzel, who has been a huge broadway star for some time, but Disney could have done what they usually do, that being release the movie with the right balance of songs, and release a broadway version several years later with all the music they had originally intended to use. I'd recommend this movie, but I'm sure it's on its way out of the theater pretty soon since it's been out for so long (and it's about to come out on video in less than 2 months). So if you want to see it, it would have to be within a few days' time. |

Bleh. Just saw A Good Day to Die Hard. Avoid. It's a shame, seeing as I thoroughly enjoyed the 4th one. |
