![]() http://www.gengame.net/2013/12/tecmo-koeis-warriors-series-meets-zelda-in-this-wii-u-collaboration-hyrule-warriors/ Link will return on the Wii U in 2014, but not in a new installment in the Legend of Zelda timeline. Hyrule Warriors (working title) appears to be a more action-y take on the series and pits players against hoards of enemies using the assortment of familiar items from the series. The game is a collaboration between Nintendo and Tecmo Koei in the style of the latter's Warriors series. I haven't heard of Tecmo Koei or Warriors, but I'm about to look into it to get an idea as to what can be expected from this game. Edited by DAXRULZ, Dec 18 2013, 09:49 AM.

Here's gameplay footage of one of Tecmo Koei's previous games to give a rough idea of what Hyrule Warriors might be like: Edited by DAXRULZ, Dec 18 2013, 09:46 AM.

Eh. I've played a Dynasty Warriors game before. I borrowed Dynasty Warriors 5 for the ps2 back in the day. I can tell you that if you've played one of these games, you've played them all. I don't think a Zelda theme will make much of a difference TBH. I didn't even finish DW5, and lied and said I did, because that game had way too many characters, and a very convoluted storyline that's told in pieces, from the perspective of the character you're playing as, and takes place over different periods of time. It just gets old after a while. At first, it's an ok action title with super exaggerated attacks that send multiple cannon fodder flying(seriously all those regular guys on the field are worthless). It may be something worth checking out once, so if you're intent on checking out this latest collaboration with Ninty, go right ahead. |

The One Who Knocks

When I first heard the news, I was wildly excited. Then I saw the trailer and am considerably less excited. At least show Link taking on more than just the same hordes of generic red enemies. The dodongo was cool and all, but the rest of the trailer showcases very little in the way of variety. Granted, I haven't played a DW game since DW Gundam, so maybe the series just isn't my thing. I suppose I'll still be keeping an eye on it, since the Wii U is taking great steps to really warrant a purchase on my end. |

OH so it's the Dynasty Warriors developer...? Suddenly I'm less excited about this. Speaking of which, I think it was Dynasty Warriors 5 when "X-Play" had a field day with one of the characters' names (Cao Pi). |

I just recently formed a potential theory regarding Hyrule Warriors. Those who have read the Hyrule Historia will be familiar with the fact that the series' origin story is told in the back pages of the book in the form of a graphic novel. The first Link (a.k.a. the Link before Skyward Sword Link) lived in what would be the future Hyrule prior to Skyloft's creation. This Link wore a scarf…a red scarf, mind you, but a scarf nonetheless. On top of that, he was in the frontline in the middle of a heated battle between good and evil (this was glazed over in the Skyward Sword prelude). In short, I wonder if Hyrule Warriors will be looking to go into detail with this story in the game?

I may be in the minority here, but I've never cared enough to try to link all the games together, aside from the ones that are obviously direct sequels to one another. People have been debating for years whether there's a unified timeline or multiple timelines, and what exact order things are supposed to be in. Even Ninty has gone back and forth, and has at times said there is no timeline. I finally decided to invest in a copy of Hyrule Historia today, mostly because I wanted Ninty to amuse me, and they didn't disappoint. They actually said that their timeline can, and probably will be completely worthless as they release new games, and there's a small section that says that spinoffs are pointless, and might as well not exist. What a joke. I'm going to assume Hyrule Warriors will be one of those non-cannon games. Lots of people take this cannon seriously, and if you want to too, then be my guest, but it's a total mess of a cannon to try to piece together. I consider that a completely optional thing though. I like that you can pick up virtually any Zelda game, and enjoy it, regardless of whether you've played past games or not. Each game rests on its own merits, and aside from direct sequels, all star different Links, in different times, and sometimes different places. Most Zelda games are exceptional, and strike the perfect balance between new and familiar elements, so each entry is different enough from its predecessors, but still has the same trademark Zelda charm. I'm not the hugest Zelda fan in the world, but I understand why it's so huge, and I've enjoyed every entry I've played, other than the very first one, which I think is a little archaic now. I just don't see the point of trying so hard to link everything together when their ties are flimsy, and often subjective. |
