Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Join our Community

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

I'm thinking of writing an issue based around the recent UK floods. Basic structure as follows, I'll pretty it up later.

Quote:

Water, water, everywhere!

Due to unusually powerful seasonal storms, the lower regions of @@NATION@@ have experienced severe flooding, as river's have burst their banks, waves have come crashing over seawalls, and drainage systems fill beyond capacity. Whilst the ducks are happy, some of the citizens are not:

[option]1. Your environmental secretary, wearing an inflated life jacket for precaution, advises caution, "We need to build more flood defenses, and quick! We can't ignore that the climate is changing before our eyes. Creeks are now mighty rivers, mile-wide beaches are up to the shore! We need to protect homes, farms and businesses, before the economy takes too big a hit. This needs major investment, huge sea walls spanning the cost, man-made sandbanks off-shore. Rivers need dredging, and widening wherever possible.
[effect]vast network of flood defenses now span every body of water
[stats]Tax increased slightly, environment decreased slightly, economy increased slightly, construction increased substantially.

[option]2. "That's an incredibly short-sighted view," says Kitty Thanner, the City Planner. "We can pour millions of @@CURRENCY@@ into these defenses, and then more people will move into these below sea-level areas, or next to rivers, and then we're back where we started! It's time to accept that we can't keep battling natural forces. There's plenty of free space in higher ground. We need to ban people from living in dangerous areas. If they can't protect themselves, it's time for the government to step in!
[effect]it is illegal to live within 10 kilometers of a body of water
[stats]Decrease in civil liberties, increase in environment.

[option]3. A noted environmental activist, known only as 'Mushroom', has chained himself to your fence. "Dude, have you ever stopped to think that maybe nature isn't the problem, maybe we are? Whoa! Mind blown, right? We need to take our foot print out of Mother Earth, we need to let her breathe. She can take care of us, if we take care of her too, you know? We need to tear up the concrete and the tarmac. Who needs roads? Would you like it if I covered your skin in tar? No! We need to get back to nature!"
[effect]all roads, car parks and pavements are destroyed
[stats]Dramatic increase in environment, no more roads in nation, dramatic decrease in economy

[option]4. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe that 'Mushroom' is onto something," says CEO of Vroom-Vroom Motors, Tex Chord. "Who needs roads? We specialise in all-terrain vehicles, which is just what the people of @@NATION@@ need in the new environmental climate. Now I know they only get a quarter mile to the gallon, but Mother Nature started this war, it's time we pulled out the big guns and show her what we're made of! All we need is a little government subsidy to help us get moving."
[effect]SUVs and 4x4s are now the dominant form of transport
[stats]Minor tax increase, minor economy increase, substantial increase in automotive industry, substantial decrease in environment

[option]5. A strange old man, wearing a horned-helmet and toga, cries out: "Don't listen to these people! You are our great leader, @@LEADER@@, the tides should obey you! Take a throne and sit in front of the waves, and order them to stop! It will work if you believe it will! Rulers did it all the time in my day! And if it doesn't, maybe you aren't so great after all!"
[effect]the nation's leaders can be found shouting angrily at the water
[stats]intelligence decreases

I thought it was rhetorical.

Yes, we had very bad floods this year, mostly in the South West.

I heard that it can take a long time, and sometimes nothing happens at all. Then again, that might just have been rumours.

Well, from this post from Luna Amore I gather that it will take a while:

"Depends. There are about 2000 in line right now. If it's up to snuff, it would be selected, edited and put in game. The whole process could take months to years. It's sped up recently, but life has a habit of getting in the way.

It is strongly encouraged that issue writers post a draft of their issue in the Got Issues forum for review and comments before submitting."
