Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Join our Community

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

Should the Queen retire?

This landmark occasion will inevitably prompt speculation in some quarters about the Queen's longer term intentions.

The Queen turns 80 on Friday

To put it bluntly, will she ever retire?

All the indications, at the moment are that abdication is not on the cards.

It traumatised her parents and the nation in the 1930s and it undermines the principles of a hereditary monarchy.

And it is for that same reason that the idea of "skipping a generation" with Prince William inheriting the throne is unlikely to find favour in Palace circles.

However, it is a vivid reminder of just how bad things were in the 1990s, that officials did at least contemplate such a scenario before rejecting it.

Abdication might be off the agenda but the status quo is likely to be gently tinkered with - 80-year-olds, however fit, cannot be charging around the place.

The Queen is likely to continue doing the "big" occasions.

Destiny called in 1952 when the Queen was just 25

Her son, and other children, will - as they do already - take on some of the other tasks.

For the Queen, her birthday is an occasion to celebrate with no obvious clouds on the horizon.

The problems of the past suddenly seem a distant memory.

The Royal Family appears to be in calmer waters.

As one who knows her remarked dryly, "she is outrageously popular and approaching sainthood".

Queen Elizabeth II, according to her cousin, Margaret Rhodes, has blossomed in recent years.

"I think in a funny way, perhaps, the death of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother had quite a huge effect on the Queen.

"Not only of sadness, but in a way that she could come into her own as the head of the family and as the most senior royal lady".

Is it time for her to step down and hand the throne to Charles? :UK:

I think she should stay until she dies like most of the other Kings and Queens before her...

and even if the Prince of Wales has to wait until he is 80 before his chance, he should still be allowed to be king due to his Birthright and i see nothing wrong with that...

Also, like the report says...The Royal Family is in calmer waters, and is still as popular as ever. Look at the recent Jubilee a few years back now, no one was quite sure if the Royal Family still was popular however they are as over 1 million packed the streets for the party...

She ought to retire and take the rest of her family with her. A royal family is an outdated idea and we should focus on electing our leaders rather than having some family in charge.

If the monarchy goes i am fine with it.

I just do not get how Charles was allowed to re-marry when Prince Andrew (was it?) had to abducate and flee to France when he re-married. He should not be allowed to be king.

Are you on about Prince Edward from during the war? He had to abdicate because he married a divorced women and a lower class citizen...

Anyway The Royal Family dont have any major power anyway in all sense of the word...they only basically keep the PM in check...

Ye, but if the queen refused to sign a bill passed by parliament there would be a republican revolt.

The royal family is a pointless, money wasting institution, just have parliament. the prime minister can become head of state and government.

The Queen is just a figurehead now. Prime Minister Tony Blair is the one in charge of the country. The Royal Family should stay, but their role is now only to keep the tradition going. I say that Queen Elizabeth the II should step down for Charles.
Im not British, Im American and this is just what I think and know. How come its always Tony Blair with whom the President meets and not the Queen?

And we become America...

The Royal family offer so much more then what we would get if we were other countries...

They make us different to other countries and because of this they also increase tourism...if we didnt have them think what we would lose...we would lose our main tourist attraction to this land..

We could have a royal museum. when the queen dies do what they did to Lenin... it'd keep tourism the same and we could have a truly democratic (or as democratic as it's gonna get) country.

But the thing which makes the UK stand out is that it has one of the oldest Monarchies around, thats what people come to see...not just a dead body :P and i would find that quite distasteful and disrespectful anyway myself

I'm not saying it's not distateful and disrespectful, all I'm saying is the monarchy serves no purpose other than as a tourist attraction, so why not just get rid of them.

they also provide a check, like i stated before, on the PM...

And if you did get rid of them, you would lose the tourism that this country relies a great deal upon...

And she was American.

monarchy shows tradition in the UK.

It was illegal to marry twice a while ago so the royal family shouldnt remarry. (sorry i just have a real problem with that vile Prince Charles)

When and if he becomes King there will be a large republican outcry.

I dont think so..i think there will be more calls for him to step down for William, however in a recent poll in a UK paper it stated that more then half, (about 57% i think it said) was still for the Royal Family therefore even if The Prince of Wales were to become the next King, not many people would give such an outcry.

The queen is cool, monarchy is not really a job, its something you're born into. Retiring from the throne is death. If she wants to retire literraly she would have to commit suicide. Anyways there is no good reason for her to retire.

If anyone should retire it should be Bush and Blair and Dick Cheney.

[Sry I didnt read the other posts. busy]
