Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Join our Community

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

Also is it she not the Queen of Great Britian & NI? Not just England.

As a Republican (and Irish) I'll vote no but this is really for British people to decide.

Britain needs a monarchy only out of tradition, and it brings in tourism.

Though I'm not British, I do live in the Commonwealth nation of Canada. Being quite a republican in alot of ways, I don't believe that Canada needs the British monarchy as our Head of State, regardless of the HoS's extremely limited power.

Though we did (finally) gain the right to amend our own constitution without consulting British parliament some time ago (1982, if I recall correctly), certain aspects of former colonial rule still linger in our system and are something of a bone of contention in the nation. Most specificallyy, the bicameral legislature we adopted from the British system. A bicameral legislature in and of itself is hardly bad, however; the fact that the Upper House (Senate) is an entirely appointed position (intended originally, I'm certain, to maintain a certain level of British control over our affairs) raises certain concerns with many Canadians. It's been used more than once in a less than honest way to block or allow certain legislative acts (the GST example comes readily to mind). Besides the Senate, we have Her Excellency Michaëlle Jean. While Ms. Jean seems to be doing a bang-up job as our Governor General (and, therefore, Head of State in the absence of Queen Elizabeth II), the fact the position exists at all kind of bothers me. Her predecessor, Adrienne Clarkson, faced much controversy from both fiscally tight Canadians (myself included) and more traditional monarchists. She spent money hand over fist and managed to disgrace her station's role in relation to the Queen more than once.

In summary: it's not my concern whether or not Britain maintains the monarchy. However, I do believe that the monarchy serves little purpose to many Commonwealth nations given the sovereignty and democracy many of those nations enjoy.

Oh we all need or figureheads, although the President seems to bring a lot of shame to the U.S. Fo' sho' he should step down as a figure head and let the men behind the curtains step up to the plate.

Well, we already have several former Prime Ministers on our paper money - would it be such a step to do the same to our coins? A figurehead doesn't have to be hereditary, and it's probably better if they're elected democratically.
