Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Join our Community

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

http://www.ccel.org/d/dante/inferno/infer02.htm

is the translated text.

It's like Shakespeare, extremely hard to understand but once you do it's very interesting.

and it's U-ropas "what will you be doing on 06/06/06" topic you'll find it mentioned.

In short, these are the circles of hell according to Dante:

0. Vestibule--neither good nor bad people, perpetually tormented by bees and wasps

1. Limbo--virtuous pagans and unbaptised...good people who never accepted Christ (Horace and Homer for example)

2. The Carnal--Those overcome by lust are blown around in a storm

3. The Gluttonous--trapped in mud and constantly subject to rain and hail

4. The Hoarders--can't remember their punishment

5. The Wrathful--trapped in the River Styx

The City of Dis--from here on, the lower levels of hell are contained within Dis. Everything before this are considered passive sins. The "active" sins are considered worse and are contained in the lower levels...once you cross the River Styx and through the gates of Dis, you enter to lower levels.

6. The Heretics--trapped in tombs that are set ablaze

7. The Violent--this circle is divided into 3 seperate rings:
Outer Ring: Those violent against people and property are in a river of boiling blood
Center Ring: Suicides
Inner Ring: Blashphemers, Sodomites and Usurers are trapped in a flaming desert with fire raining down. Blashphemers sit in the sand, usurers lie, and sodomites wander

8. The Fraudulent and Trecherous--divided into 10 "ditches"
1st--panderers and seducers are whipped by demons
2nd--flatterers are steeped in human waste
3rd--Simonists (paying for power) are head first in holes with flames burning their feet
4th--Sorcerers/False Prophets--heads put on their body backwards
5th--Barrators (corrupt politicians) immersed in boiling pitch/tar
6th--Hypocrites wear cloaks of lead
7th--Thieves are chased by snakes (kind of cool..when bitten, the theif turns into a snake himself to start chasing other theives)
8th--Fraudulent advisors and counselors are trapped in flames
9th--Sowers of Discord are constantly ripped apart, mended, ripped apart, mended, etc.
10th--Falisfiers (including liars, impersonators, alchemists, etc) all stricken with various diseases

9. The Traitors--this is broken up into four separate sections. This level is on a giant, frozen lake known as Cocytus
1st--Traitors to their kindred/family
2nd--Traitors of political entities (traitors to their army, country, party, etc)
3rd--Traitors to their Guests and Wards
4th--Traitors to their Lords and Benefactors

Satan himself is stuck, frozen waste deep in ice in the fourth section (the worse part of hell). He has 3 heads, and each head is gnawing on a famous traitor from section 4. The two side heads are chewing on Cassius and Brutus who betrayed Julius Ceasar...not surprisingly, the center head is gnawing on Judas Iscariot for his betrayal of Christ.

...the one about corrupt politicians...they deserver worse.

Oh umm what about people who have killed, lied, cheated, stealed, are corrupted politicians or advisors, betrayed and backstabbed everyone they've ever known. Do they get a 1000 years per level for each of those sins? and then cycle through eternity like that. Or...what?

I believe Dante's premise is that once you pass through the Vestibule and into Limbo you are judged (can't remember who the judge is)...whatever your worst sins are (lowest level of hell) is where you spend eternity.

looked it up quickly:

You are judged in "limbo" my Minos child of Zeus and Europa and Legendary King of Crete (Greek Mythology).

Also, the sins are ordered in terms of severity according to the Aristotelian concept of vices. Aristotle considered inability to control one's self rather mild (gluttony, moral weakness, lust--basically the first 6 circles) violent acts worse (The 7th circle) and the conscious decisions to act fraudulent or with treachery the worst type of vice (circles 8 and 9).

This is really one of my favorite pieces of literature...sorry if I'm boring anyone by droning on and on...I could literally go for hours.

So basically... if you're going to go to hell, be either a sorcerer/false prophet, or a thief.

Awesome!

My I recommend Ciaran Carson's translaion of Dante's Inferno. It's the best translation I've read. It was a better read than the 'Everyman' version.

And well done for that list LB! It's nice to see another Dante fan!

Dante takes the Bible vey literally, hence why nearly everyone ends up in Hell. Similar to hoe South Park see it. What I think is great, is that whilst your sat in Limbo, waiting for Minos to decide where you go, your eyes drip venomous blood and maggots eat your feet, and that's before they even know how bad you were! The punishments get worse as you go down. The Lustful get the worst deal as far as I can see, as they are viciously raped by the air and the water, whilst flecks of fire rain down on them (as they do everywhere after level 6, The City of Dis). Occasionally one is raped so violently they are ripped apart and their limbs fly everywhere.

Dante was one sick SOB. :P

Dante's Inferno Test: What level of HELL do you belong in?
Quote:

Sixth Level of Hell - The City of Dis
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You approach Satan's wretched city where you behold a wide plain surrounded by iron walls. Before you are fields full of distress and torment terrible. Burning tombs are littered about the landscape. Inside these flaming sepulchers suffer the heretics, failing to believe in God and the afterlife, who make themselves audible by doleful sighs. You will join the wicked that lie here, and will be offered no respite. The three infernal Furies stained with blood, with limbs of women and hair of serpents, dwell in this circle of Hell.
