What are the stages of hell and who wrote them? I know I saw someone here talk about them but I forget who and in what topic. Please reply cause it is killing me not knowing right now. |

I did that test a while ago. I got Level 6 followed closely by Level 2.
 I re-did it one time to try and put myself in the Devil's Mouth (Cocytus), and it's bloody difficult! You have to try really hard to be bad. Hence only Judas, Cassius and Brutus ended up there.However, if someone else were to be as bad as them, would Satan grow a new head for them? Take for example Chairman Mao. he shot one of his best friends in the face after he advised Mao not to deliberately starve tens of millions of his own people. To me, that makes Mao a pretty bad guy, and, what's more, he betrayed his country, his people, and his friends. Dante was particularly scornful of traitors, so I think he'd dislike Mao. So would Satan grow another head in order to chew Mao? And surely the crimes of Mao, Satlin, Hitler, Pol Pot and so forth are worse than the crimes of Cassius and Brutus? I'm leaving Judas out as that's a whole other thread. |

Seventh Level of Hell Guarded by the Minotaur, who snarls in fury, and encircled within the river Phlegethon, filled with boiling blood, is the Seventh Level of Hell. The violent, the assasins, the tyrants, and the war-mongers lament their pitiless mischiefs in the river, while centaurs armed with bows and arrows shoot those who try to escape their punishment. The stench here is overpowering. This level is also home to the wood of the suicides- stunted and gnarled trees with twisting branches and poisoned fruit. At the time of final judgement, their bodies will hang from their branches. In those branches the Harpies, foul birdlike creatures with human faces, make their nests. Beyond the wood is scorching sand where those who committed violence against God and nature are showered with flakes of fire that rain down against their naked bodies. Blasphemers and sodomites writhe in pain, their tongues more loosed to lamentation, and out of their eyes gushes forth their woe. Usurers, who followed neither nature nor art, also share company in the Seventh Level.
