Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

We only have two students, but whatever. Anyone can read this.

Our story begins with the fall of Rome. With the greatest empire known to man now in shambles, there was a big power vacuum.

The two second-largest empires at the time, E. Rome or Byzantium (which was Christian) and Persia (which was Zoroastrian). The post-Roman Mediterranean world was dominated by the clash between these two empires: with Byzantium expanding its influence by converting rulers and peoples to Christianity, and with Persia voicing its concerns through Jews, who were very very pro-Persian since Cyrus was nice to them in their soujourn over there.

A key point of interest was the straight that linked the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. On one side of it was Christian Ethiopia, and the other was Yemen which was at that time ruled by a Jewish dynasty. The Jewish dynasty fell after King Joseph Dhu-Nuwas, fearing a conspiracy by Christians in his court to usurp his rule, decided to massacre Christians within his kingdom. As a result of the Ethiopian King's vow to avenge the deaths (but more to expand his kindom), Ethiopia raised an army and invaded Yemen, driving Dhu-Nuwas into the Red Sea in 525.

Yemen was now Christian! But infrastructure failed, crops whithered, and for forty years Yemen was a mess! So the king of Ethiopia decided to use tourism to boost revenue. He built a massive cathedral in Yemen, and news of it spread to Mecca up north.

The Meccans saw the cathedral as competition (it kept the traders away) and an affront to their pagan beliefs. So a couple of religious leaders traveled to Yemen to see the 'abomination' for themselves. Upon entering, they found a dark corner where the left a [ahem] "silent, smelly surprise" for the worshippers and clergy to behold.

The Ethiopian king was, to put it lightly, irate. So in 570, he declared war on Mecca and raised a massive army, even bringing an elephant along. The Meccan Arabs, upon hearing that the Ethiopian army was about to attack, fled into the desert.

However, right before reaching Mecca, the elephant miraculously sat down. It just wouldn't get up, and Ethiopians were dropping down due to fatigue. So they turned around.

It was on that year, the "Year of the Elephant", that Muhammad was born.
