Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Join our Community

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

Is it good, great, or horrible?
Think about it, look at all the crap you can do on the internet, one could actually stay at home for the rest of his life and LIVE off the internet..how scary is that?
Think of how small the internet was 10 years ago, it looked n00bish to the ultima-prime it's turned into now-a-days..the way this world keeps getting more and more technic, doesn't it bother any of you that us young'in's will have to learn an even more uber technology when we're L&H's age o.o....

I already feel that my computer/technology knowledge is obsolete, and I'm only 19.

I think the Internet, like anything, is good in moderation.

However, there ARE people who don't leave their homes, because they don't have to. You can order everything you need, pay your bills, do you banking, everything necessary for life on the computer.

The internet is the closest thing to a 'collective human consciousness' you can get.

Everythings on the internet. Games, porn, movies, everything. The internet was intended to be used by scientists, not 4 billion people.

The Internet was designed to be a source of information that could be accessed anywhere at anytime. It was originaly designed in case of mass wars/emergancies where governments or inteligance agencies may have needed to gain information but not be able to get to their filing systems orthe relavant buildings. In this, it's primary objective it was shown to pretty much fail on September the Eleventh when many internet sites crashed due to the large volumes of traffic. The only thing that saved it was Yahoo and Google mirroring the sites that had gone down so people could still read them.

I think the internet is good.

For Now.
Think about when/if AI is discovered/created, if it gained access to the internet it could literally take over the world..Think toasters electrifying their owners, refrigerators pouncing on unsuspecting fat kids, the horror, the horror...

AI is impossible by my reckoning. Computers do not and cannot have self-thought. Thats what a computer is. It is programmed by humans to do a certain thing when we tell it to. It doesn't have feelings like a human does and cannot therefore make decisions for itself.

Edit: Can't spell computer

Not really all that impossible, all that is needed is for the computer to be able to analyze information and come to a conclusion about it.

But humans would have told it what comclusion it should come to. It doesn't have feelings and cannot make decisions for itself. It never will be able to.

It's like in the middle ages when alchemists kept trying to find cheap ways of making gold. It's impossible, it cannot be done.

But you see, AI could be unpleased on the internet and the computer could compute the information from various sources and come to a conclusion given the majority sources of information. Watch some AI movies and they explain how it should work =).

But computers don't have feelings so how can they be "unpleased".

You fail to realise, we're still feeding it that information even if it does get it from "various sources". It is not linking the information itself. It is just receiving a bunch of 1s and 0s and regurgitating what the humans have inputted.

Yes but the point of Artificial inteligence is that the computer comes to unique conclusions, ones not put in by a human. Do you think when a human programs a calculator it programs in the answer to every possible sum? No they just tell it how to come up with the answer. It doesn't take much evolution on that for a computer to start deciding the best strategem for real life situations.

Just a thought

In PIs world would AI be first class citizens as they would be more "intelligent" (as he measures it) than mere humans?
