Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

I'm sure many of you have received this NS issue. For those who haven't,
Quote:

Dorothy Terwilliger lies immobilized in a hospital bed, unable to move. She has end-stage cancer, and wishes to end her struggle against death. However, laws prevent her doctors from obeying her wishes.

1. Dorothy and her family are campaigning for a "Dying with Dignity" bill, to change this situation. She implores the government to legalize euthanasia.

2. "I understand this is a very difficult time for these people," says freelance medical writer Jennifer Jong-Il. "But the solution is not to let our medical system slide down the slippery slope of killing people in pain. We must cure, not kill. This is not the right time for euthanasia."

3. "I agree, but go further: there is never a right time for euthanasia," says Bishop Prudence Bush. "The lives we lead are given to us by the grace of God, and he decides when they end. It is not for us to question God's divine purpose, no matter how odd or screwed-up it may seem."
This brings up one of the few issues I've never been able to form a strong opinion on: assisted suicide. While causing the death of another is unethical, what if it is the choice of the patient? If it's legal, where's the line? Does one need to be terminal?

It brings unease, obviously, because dealing with human life is always a bit troubling or scary. But does this mean that the individual's right to choice should only extend to how to live, not if?

Here's a strong opinion on the issue:

I don't give a damn whether or not you, terminally ill or otherwise, kill yourself. If many of people around today decided that assisted suicide was the new hip thing, I certainly wouldn't miss them.

Pretty much, since it doesn't harm me (or affect me in any way, really) why would I be concerned if someone else decided to off themselves?

Its my life, I'll do what I want with it, and if that means I choose to end it, I'll damn well do it. It would also be helpful if I could do that in a rather painless way, which didn't inconvenience others.

I should also point out that the frequent London Underground delays due to people jumping under trains might have contributed to this view.

I also agree with assisted suicide. If someone wants to die they shouldn't have to endure pain...

But I think that not caring if someone wants to die or not is a bit callous, isn't it?

Absolutely not.

What possible reason could I have for caring whether someone wants to off themselves or not?
