Welcome to the Global Right Alliance's forums!

Firstly, you can only see a very limited amount of the forums at the moment. You will be able to see the full forums and properly participate in our region and its community when you register.

Join our Community

Now, on to the region itself. Don't let the name, specifically the "Right", fool you. We've got members from across the political spectrum, and our political parties have always reflected this. The Global Right Alliance (GRA), as primarily a gameplay region, has been everything from an anarchy to a monarchy to a homegrown rotatorship. The region has had such governments because of its culture, which adores political intrigue and thrives on confrontation. With the increase of the region's population, many veterans have returned. It is the beginning of a new Global Right Alliance and a new government system.

I know the forums can be quite intimidating; there's people who have been here for nearly a decade and have over 10,000 posts. However, we welcome new members and encourage them to get involved. If you want help finding your way around, we have resources to help you to get on your way.

I want to bring it back.

From talking to some of you I believe there is enough interest for it to return in some sense but I'd like to check general interest to see if the model of book club I'd like is viable.

So book club anyone?

How did this work in the past, or more importantly, how do you want it to work now?

I could well be interested.

In the past it didn't so much work as existed.

How it will work in the future will depend on the level of interest.

I'd like to see the book group/club/whatever work on a month long circuit.

Book anounced: 1 week to get it -> one week to start reading -> week to discuss and continue reading -> week to finish discussion.

I need to eat now. I shall explain more later.

I think the problem in the past is that we have lacked someone to take responsibility for the smooth runing of the club. I would change that with a "chair" system.

Each month someone chairs the book group. They select the book in the final week of the previous month. They are then responsible for ensuring the group is successful throughout the month (and choosing the following chair in the 3rd week of the month). The chair should select the next chair based on who has been most active in discussion of the present month.

Last time around it could take the group a month to finally make firm decision on which book to read.

I would also like to see the book group tied into the university. With engaging in discussion of a relevant book translating into credits towards GRA masters or PHDs.

Hmm, I probably won't be able to actively participate, but I'd certainly appreciate something that will motivate me to read more.

Do 'people' think a month is enough?

I think on the whole a month would be plenty of time.

Obviously sometimes there would be RL hiccups that would get in the way, but I don't think it should be any longer.

A very good idea to link it to the Uni too.

One month sounds reasonable to me as well...

I thinking no membership fees but if you wish to gain credits from contributions to discussions then you must hire a uni-person to evaluate your discussion and deem it worth/not worth the credits - a service you would obviously have to pay for.

As the last (much maligned) Book Club instigator I'd just like to confirm my interest.

Sounds good! I'm not sure if I'll personally participate, as I've got tons of reading to do, but I fully support this initiative.

Seneca. Always meant to ask; do you take your name from the philosopher Seneca?

No, the Native tribe.
Didn't even know their was a philosopher named that. Hmm, time to research

I'd always presumed it was as in the Roman Seneca. He was involved in the murder of Nero.

JB: that would be the person I was thinking of.

People who have declared interest. What do you think to the model that I have suggested?
