It not as though Shaki exposed more of herself in this video; in 'Rabiosa', Shaki gave us plenty of chances to examine where her inner thighs reaches her lab-majora. But I, myself, used to be a huge fan and now I am sick of Shakira making videos specifically to put a tent in men's pants and provoking "did Shakira go too far?" headlines. Shaki is uber-talented, but as a woman I feel put off by the crack of Shaki's arse being shoved at my face.

But I do miss her fun dancing and easy-going sexuality from the 'Laundry Service' era. I'm not falling for this bullshit where she plays her guitar and drums in the video; it's transparently crying "but I'm still a real musician!!1!" In 'Did it Again' she implies that the sex kitten image is just a phase she's going through, but it's become the image her career relies on. Even Britney Spears isn't this risque.

Over 30 million views views of this video clip in three days? Congratulations Shaki. But how many are just masturbating to it, and how many are inspired to buy the single? 'Cause I'm neither :(

fucking incorrect imbed tags... Fuck it. If you've seen Shakira's crack once, you've seen it a thousand times.

It's Time to Start Feeling Weird About Shakira

Shakira is pretty great, right? She sang "Underneath Your Clothes" and that "Hips Don't Lie" number, she seems very sweet -- we like Shakira pretty well around these parts. But Shakira's boyfriend, soccer player Gerard Pique, well, he's an entirely different story. Because here's a thing that Shakira said in a new interview with Billboard about that hot music video she did with Rihanna:

"He's very territorial, and since he no longer lets me do videos with men, well, I have to do them with women. It's more than implied in our relationship that I can't do videos like I used to. It's out of the question -- which I like, by the way. I like that he protects his turf and he values me, in a way that the only person that he would ever let graze my thigh would be Rihanna."

See, that's weird. Whatever works for them, of course, but doesn't this seem a little unsettling? Shakira is a popular singer, She, on occasion, sings songs with men, those songs may become popular, and what, she's not allowed to do a music video for that song? What's the line here, is she not allowed to appear on camera with another man, or can she just not be touched by another man? Why is it that he's in charge of who touches Shakira in a professional setting, shouldn't that be Shakira's job?

It's just disappointing, that's all. Wasn't Shakira supposed to be a "She Wolf"? What happened here? ....

Yep, Shakira's Boyfriend Still Sounds Like A Creeper

Oh, Shakira, what a feisty soul, so wild, so free, so untamable. Or at least that's what we thought until Shakira let us know that her boyfriend, Gerard Pique, has forbidden her to do music videos with any men. Now we think that Shakira is a feisty soul who is also maybe, possibly involved with a sketchy dude. And she just did an interview that pretty much confirmed it.

Here's a quote about what Gerard told her after her last interview:

“Ha ha ha! I’ll tell you something: he said, ‘can you please shut your little mouth next time you’re doing interviews – because you’re making me sound terrible!’ And I said: ‘Isn’t it true? Can I go and do video with men?’ And he’s like, ‘no!’ He is definitely territorial. He’s a Spanish man. But I like that. He’s protecting his turf. He is a defender – the last person before the goalie.”

Well, that's upsetting. Just imagine for a moment, if you will, Shakira's fella actually saying to her "can you please shut your little mouth?" and try, just try, to not get grossed out. It's impossible, right? It cannot by done. And that's why we need to form Operation Liberate Shakira. Who's in?!

I was never one of those fans who believed the sun shone out of Shaki's arse, and I believe she was always pro-submissive. She doesn't need "saving", she's happy to be the "neck" of the relationship. But it's curious to me that other people are upset or weirded out, like Shaki hasn't always hedged against being seen as "too" empowered.

Regarding the album - 'Shakira.' - I'm ashamed to say that I did buy it in the end. Actually, I bought two copies by accident. I liked the second single, 'Empire'.

I respect that in 'Spotlight' she admits "leaves her old boyfriend and crumbles in [Pique's] arms" (I respect she doesn't deny the affair), but Shaki is still largely self-serving with "in the end, you know I won". It's like, fuck you to the woman Pique cheated on/left for Shaki. Niiiice.

Shaki also really plays up the victim role to her break up with her ex-fiance, De la Rua. She blames him in two songs (plus a side remark in a song about Pique). Yeah, de la Rua sued her; but I don't believe she's a victim. She ran her 'Mongoose' tour into deficit, released the original, boring 'Oral Fixation' that bombed, and 'She Wolf' was Britney-lite and not the cathartic, strong era you might expect from a self-proclaimed "perfectionist". I believe de la Rua when he says he pushed for 'Hips Don't Lie' and 'Waka Waka'; that Oral Fixation album just seemed to prove Shaki isn't as career-smart as presented.

Anyway, I like the new album plenty. Milan's mumbling is cute; each song comes with a very different music track; I love 'Chasing Shadows' for it's 80s/90s pop influence.

I haven't bought the whole album, just two songs that appealed to me when I streamed them.

You Don't Care About Me
Nunca Me Acuerdo de Olvidarte

I might get Empire. I kinda like it when i first heard it.
