Could this be included in our curriculum? How? Should it be something that is specifically taught or should it be something that students learn alongside core curriculum learning? Thoughts? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/education/news/article.cfm?c_id=35&objectid=11332048&ref=rss |

This is an interesting question actually. I think it should be taught-but incidentally. In over 28 years teaching I have yet to see any external or stand alone health programmes have any long lasting effects on students lives outside the classroom. I have seen so many programmes run over the years, many of which claim to be " The answer!" whether it's about drugs or sexuality or mental health. The only things iVe seen to be effective are programmes tun as part of everyday life in the classroom, not as stand alone programmes. I have strong doubt that external providers of programmes are effective at all as soon as the novelty many of these programmes hold is over. |

But that was me getting on my soap box! I definitely think kids could learn a lot about resilience and how to strengthen it. Jono- you might like to start a post about learning muscles and how they are being used in the Middle Years at TKAS at some stage. That might be interesting for some people. |
