Thanks. I don't even know what to expect from this test... I know HTML and no other computer language. My recruiter tells me that it is math intensive... That alone isn't really a bad thing, but me not even knowing what is on the test is sort of throwing me in a mental loop.

Have you selected your jobs? Not sure if I'll hit you with this in time, but whatever you do and no matter what they tell you DO NOT apply or select for an Open job (Like Open General, Open Electronic, Open Mechanic) Let me emphasize this so you don't get confused. When you process at MEPS and you apply for your job, they'll show you a list and go off what you are qualified based off your ASVAB scores. They will be all like "Go for Open in this, it will give you better oppourtunities, blah blah blah." Don't fall for it! DO NOT GO OPEN. Don't listen to them, they DO lie, DO NOT TRUST THEM. Trust yourself. This means that they will think you do not care what type of job you get in that specific area WHICH MEANS they will put you in a place where they will need you most which are usually the crap jobs that deploy a lot, deal with a lot of crap, or are overall stressful and annoying. Don't make the same mistake I did. :D Good luck!

Oh, what? Can only take 2 weeks at a time?? That's not true. The leave you are given is yours to use whenever you like unless the mission says otherwise. Think leave as paid vacation, that's all there is to it. Some commanders shun at giving more then 30 days but I've never heard of two weeks.

Yes, I've already been through MEPS once, this is just a test now.

Actually, they didn't bring that up at all... He showed me what I was qualified for, and I chose the computer based jobs (I think they fall under General, Communications), which is only like four jobs.

Ahh, he must have been nice then. The MEPS I went to were all a buncha jerks >.<. When do you leave for BMT?

Well, since I haven't even graduated from high school yet, my basic training won't be for a while. The proposed date that they gave after going through MEPS is 2/1/09 (uh oh, forgot how to do military dating).

Where I went for MEPS was full of pretty nice people, wanting to get things done and for us to have an acceptable experience. The only part that really sucked was the "hurry up and wait" that was going on.

Okay, here is some tips to make your time at BMT easier. First is GET INTO SHAPE. The standard for passing your fitness test is 45 pushups in 1 minute, 50 crunches in 1 minute, and a 11:45 mile and a half. I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it though since they are making PT harder. Nonethless, set a goal and get yourself in shape.

Another is to not stress about it. 8 weeks isn't a long time and BMT is what you make it. Don't stress about it, seriously. It can be rough or it can be easy, it depends on how you prepare. It's a confidence builder, that's all it is. You'll work hard, you'll hate some days, but when you leave BMT you'll feel the best you've ever felt.

I don't want to say too much because it's still a while away for you. Just get in shape and enjoy your time left in high school. :)

Getting into shape is what I'm currently taking care of... But I'm still pretty weak. Though I've got a decent amount of time to prepare.'

Honestly though, I can't wait. Even with only half a year of high school... I couldn't imagine having to wait until the end of a full school year. The sooner I get sent off, the sooner I'm done and off to tech school and on my way into a career.

Thanks, I hope I get a good base too. I don't want to be stuck in some crappy small base, but rather a new base that is up to date. Unless of course all bases are up to date. And hopefully the bases in Japan need/want entry level programmers... Or Hawaii.

BMT is in San Antonio (spelled it wrong, I know), Texas. Question, for for you Sa...Are you going for immediate shipping or the Delayed Entry Program like me? Because, I've already went through MEPS just a few weeks ago and chances are that I won't see BMT until December or January...kinda a long wait for me, but gives me time to get in shape.

Anywho, congrats on everything you've done so far and on your decision. I wish you the best of luck! :3

Yeah, BMT is somewhere in Texas (Lackland, I think).

But yeah, I'm in the delayed entry program. I can't go for immediate shipping since I haven't graduated yet. Won't be shipped off until early next year, which also gives me plenty of time to get in shape as well.

Thanks, but we are both at the same point now, so that should apply to you as well.

So it does...I'm not very active on this group so besides who reads this and for Emmy, no one else knows I'm leaving for the Air Force too.

I kept it that way for a while too, kind of. I had been talking to a recruiter for some time before my original post. But only a few people really knew (those on here, and family; my friends around here didn't even know).
