Rhed's Joining the Japanese Server Guide The koltova gras is always greener on the other side. All right, folks! Since a couple people asked for it, here is a detailed guide for joining the Japanese servers. First of all, READ THIS PAGE. It is a guide from PSUpedia that details -everything- you need to do here. I will reference and augment this information, so once again, please have this page open. Steps for Setup and Registration: 1. Download the files from the JP site. There is a link to it on the page above; do not worry about buying/importing it. You no longer need a hardcopy game/cd key for the Japanese servers. PSU works more like a normal MMO now, over there. 2. Install Japanese IME support. Once again, there is a detailed guide to this on the linked page. This is probably the most difficult part-- essentially, you're just setting up your computer to display Japanese and understand the code. This is mandatory. 3. Creating an account. Follow the steps on PSUpedia. 4. Follow step four of the PSUpedia guide to buy a CD key. JP billing is a lot easier than our own billing; just make sure you use a Visa or Mastercard or another major carrier. Now, at some point you might run into a captcha (you know, the bot-verification thing most sites use, where you type in the displayed word) that asks you to type in a few katakana symbols. If that happens, just consult a chart (Google 'katakana chart') and input the symbols using your spiffy new Japanese support. If you still need help with this part, IM me and I'll get you through it. There we go! Now you should have spent 10 US dollars and now have a JP PSU account with 10 free days. You can install the game, update, and log in. You do not have a subscription yet, so here are your options: Buying a subscription The PSUpedia guide has a guide on this, too. It's monthly recurring, 10 USD, same deal as always. Pros --You get the full content. They have a lot more missions, equipment, and clothes than we do. --JP PSU will be up for a very long time, if their Blue Burst run was any indication. --You get EIGHT character slots. --Great importer community. When meeting up with a fellow English-speaker, within a few minutes they gave me a million meseta and an S-rank. It's very easy to get started here. --Events! Lots of them! --Population. About 20 universes, all having at least 1 full star right now. --You'll learn Katakana in a couple weeks. Cons --You have to start from scratch. People will help you, though. --It's all in moonrunes. We can translate it with a patch/tool, though. --You're a dirty gaijin, and some JP players may not like you. Most don't care. Some will help you. Keep in mind that most can understand English even if you can't understand Japanese. Now, what most of you are probably interested in... FREE PLAY. That's right, you do not have to pay past your initial 10 dollars. After your 10-day trial runs out, you can still log on and play. You essentially have free PSU until the JP servers go down. There are limitations, however. This mode of play is called 'Community Course,' and they say they will expand its features in the future. Free Play -- Community Course Pros --You have free PSU for the entire life span of the game. --You still have 8 characters slots, and can even make new ones with an expired account. --Free PSU. Cons --Your level cap is 50. If you were higher when your account expired, you get to keep your level, you just can't gain anymore EXP. --Can't trade. --Can't go to your room. --Limited to 3 universes. Okay, now for the important thing no matter which method you choose... Translation! HOW TO TRANSLATE JP PSU Do what this topic says: http://forum.psupedia.info/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=526 Make sure you make the config file read-only, or it will not work. It will be a separate window from PSU that immediately translates any incoming text-- chat, mails, item drops, etc. Yes, this does mean that you can now understand the chat of Japanese players. Okay... Well, that should be just about it! I'd really like to play with some of you guys over there. If you need any futher help or have questions, let me know! |

Cool. Suppose I'll have to move on to this instead. It's going to suck having to start leveling buffs and debuffs all over again, and losing all that high-ranking equipment (since my hunting luck is so very poor when it comes to finding stuff I want, instead it finds everything I don't want that others want; bleh). |

So, where would we meet and RP away from all the silly little japanese people if we all went to the JP version? |

Sounds good. (I want to move to Alaska... Or at least upper Washington. Part of my future home-complex plan. Also, impenetrable by zombies, just in case. But, back to topic.) I'm curious as to what server we would be roleplaying on as well. |

Tried. After cracking the captcha conundrum, I found myself realizing that I have no password, and therefore cannot login... edit: VICTORY IS MINE! password is sent in second confirmation email, right under the first place you see username (both prefaced with a J) |

Aye, I was about to say. XD It's randomly generated and sent to your email. Glad to hear you got through! We'll have to set up a meeting on that side, sometime. |

Of course, that also means I'll have to re-prioritize my bandwidth from WoW to downloading... And just as I'm making such great progress with my Discipline priest too

And another roadblock... Can't register and start playing because I don't have an activation key... Suppose I could just play offline for a bit. |

That's odd. I don't remember needing an activation key... I bought a game key for 10 dollars, which was automatically applied to my account upon purchase. Is that what you're missing, or is this a new requirement? |

I believe that is what I'm missing, as I've never purchased the Japanese version of the game. |

Hrm... Well, then, you should just need to follow step 4 in this guide and in the PSUpedia guide. Once you buy the game online, it automatically applies. |

Indeed. XD; You won't even -need- to buy the game key once that starts on March 18th. This is just for community course at the moment. |

I wonder on March 18th, if you download the game without buying a key, can you still buy a GL afterward? |

http://psupedia.info/~essen/psujpt/ Here you go; they added a new one on the second page of the topic. Also, the database they use for item translation was buggy the last couple days, so that part might not work at the moment. |

I have Win7 64-bit, and it runs just fine. If you use Python 2.6.5 that came out yesterday, that might be the issue-- it wouldn't work for Hako, either, until I gave him the older version of Python I use. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0K5H08JT This is the 2.6.4 build that works with it. |

It also might've been the modules I downloaded. I grabbed the ones near the top, but I needed the ones near the bottom. python-2.6.4 gtk-2.12.9-win32-2 pycairo-1.4.12-2.win32-py2.6 pygobject-2.14.2-2.win32-py2.6 pygtk-2.12.1-3.win32-py2.6 |

meh, I'll just learn Japanese, immersion style... maybe... Running a Newman Hunter (eventually Fighgunner) named Triell. Lv5 as of last night. This is between WoW sessions, so no guarantees I'll be on as much as I was when I was active on the regional PC/PS2 servers. |
