Yeah. I'm looking forward to this. I hope they don't screw it over like PSU.

Yes! *pumps fist*
Hope they release some media in the near future.
If I start building a time machine to get it now, I can get the game before I even finish it! >_>

From Shougai PSO, here's a list of all of the text scrolling across the background in the trailer. First, phrases that relate to the game's new components:

* "Action" and "RPG" re-connected
* Increased variety of client orders
* Map functions changing in real time
* User-created story
* New interface for environmental interactions
* Global support
* Thorough racial balances
* Full-user participation events
* Seasonal changes
* New chat system
* New mail functions
* Drastic item synthesis overhaul
* Even wider variety of ways to raise your character
* New direction of event scenes
* Approach from NPCs (New approach maybe?)
* Silhouette changes by add-ons (Not too sure what they mean here.)
* New photon arts (This was partially obscured in the video, so may not be 100% accurate.)
* Community support content (Again, slightly obscured in the video.)
* Additional customizations when you create your character
* Category-based weapon training system (Slightly obscured.)
* Implementation of asynchronous communication
* New party system
* Consideration of enemy cooperation
* Limitless content
* New approach to the game client
* Implementation of a new "life work" (Partially obscured.)
* Daily surprises
* "Trump card" system
* Mutual interaction functionality for new and veteran users

Source

Of course the one that sticks out to me like a sore thumb is:

User-created story

Once we get more info, time to get those creative juices flowing and (Hopefully) the band back together again.

The thing you should be looking at is "GLOBAL SUPPORT."

This is all incredible news so far. :D The story aspects and global support have me very excited, too-- the latter was one of the reasons the original was so awesome.

Perhaps "Silhouette" is a poor translation of "User Interface?" Such a thing would not be unheard of, as there are multiple games that allow this.

Sounds good... I'd like to see a not-PSU-update-type.

You know, the kind where new updates are just reskins of old stuff?

Admittedly, I now have a -BIG- distrust of Sega due to PSU and the recent disappointment of my life AVP.

However, they also had a hand in the upcoming game "vanquish." I've tried the demo to that too, and the only word that comes to mind for it is "amazing." Maybe, just maybe, they're turning a corner of giving good stuff again. :) I can remain hopeful.

PSO2 will be released for the PSP Vita, as well, and you'll be able to use your characters on both.

I saw the news about the Vita, and can't help but wonder if it will bring the same issues to PSO2 as the PS2 did to PSU. Handhelds have tight storage limitations. Also, PSN security absolutely BLOWS, as evidenced by the back-to-back hacks that had the network down for months. I can honestly say that I am now worried about the future of this game.

I like the idea of PSO2 on the PS Vita, but I also have mixed feelings about it for the same reason as you... personally, I think they should release it on PS Vita, and then share character data (to keep it all server side.) But, limit them to their respective platforms to eliminate the potential handicap the PS Vita could become. This way we could still enjoy the game on either system while still working on our characters. I wouldn't mind playing with different communities depending on the platform, as long as I kept my character data (as some may have noticed, I am not big on having multiple characters, I practically only played Ratak and had only created Sa again to screw around with melee since I had way too many rares that I would otherwise never use along with some roleplay...) My concern would be subscription fees. Realistically, since the character data would be tied to a particular account that should mean only on subscription for either/both. Perhaps it would make sense too if they made it so that you had to pay $1-2 more for the ability to use both platforms, which would still be acceptable to me.

Of course, what are the odds that what I think would actually be how it would end up anyway hahah.

Well you don't have to worry about subscriptions, as the game has been confirmed Freemium, as well as offline modes being ported to iOS and Android. The latter, of course, has me even more worried about the future of the game, but I'll wait for the final verdict before passing judgement. It's not like it'll cost me anything to form my own opinion, anyway.

I wonder what limitations this "freemium" model will have. Probably similar to the JP PSU.

And wow... guess kind of to be expected with the PS Vita, and there will be some pretty beefy sounding phones coming out late this year. But, they might be the "same" game, but not necessarily hampering the PC version... or perhaps I'm just being optimistic.

Here's a link on that: http://bumped.org/psublog/phantasy-star-online-2-cash-items/

Seems pretty reasonable. Unless the prices are really nuts, I can't really imagine spending more per month than I would if it were pay-to-play. Not to mention it would seem like more of an incentive for them to release more content at a regular pace since they don't get paid if there's nothing new to buy.

Definitely glad they're keeping everything server side this time. While there are offline modes on the handhelds, I imagine fewer people would even take the effort to cheat through those devices. Still kinda unclear on how selling things on the shop works now though. I've heard things about weapon binding, which I'm not opposed to (Though it is nice to be able to pass down weapons among characters/friends)...

I sure hope the developers still have motivation to continue expanding on the game. That would suck if they didn't. Then again, I remember reading something about Dungeons and Dragons Online going to this kind of model and supposedly ending up actually making more money...

What bothers me, I guess, is that it is very hard for me to justify paying any money in that sort of model (as with anything really.) Not sure what things I would even bother getting... guess it really depends on what all they have specifically when released and how much. Or if some of the add-on features are a one-time thing or recurring.

I have it downloaded, but unfortunately my RMA'd video card and power supply are still in the mail. So now I sit looking forlornly at the .zip file. D:

EDIT: Judging from screenshots, you can put the RAnewm cowboy hat on any race and gender. And there is a black one. All is well.

It appears there's also a benchmark. Good to have handy, so you know just how much the game is going to stress your machine.

I played around with the character creator a bit, liking it, but I'll just end up mostly randomizing my features to start with anyway and going from there. (Also found it kind of difficult to navigate. Didn't find a way to change ear orientation. I want up-facing ears, not out...)

Although, I ran the benchmark because I'm really curious how well it'll play for me now that I can max things out. 8576...

Full-screen at 1920x1080, my laptop gets just over 2200. At default resolution, it was getting around 7900.

Hmmm... been reading about this:
"There’s going to be 5 ships to choose from when the Beta starts. Even though you’ll see Ship 6 through 10, those aren’t available. Unlike previous games, you can’t move your character to different ships, so please choose a ship you and your friends will play on. When you want to make another character on a different ship, you need to purchase the right to do so with Arks Cash." (From: Phantasy Star Fan Blog)

So, sort of like with PSU, should we determine an unofficial roleplay server? Might be a good idea to reach out to other roleplaying communities so we can still interact with them.

I personally don't like this change, especially considering how dead some servers could be in PSU (or any server-locked game after a while.)

My vote is for whichever is the most effective for us to be on hahah. I'm not terribly concerned with the actual number, just us being able to have a roleplaying base. Although, would be probably advantageous to do a low number just since players will tend to populate the lower number servers I would guess so we could still get a decent player base for when not roleplaying so we can still play the game (I for one enjoyed random parties in PSU.)

Will suck for those that join us later on and end up being on a different server. Not sure how they dealt with that crap in other games with locked servers.

They're going to allow you to use arks cash to transfer your character between ships....Sort of bullshit but it's standard MMO stuff so what ever.

Ah, didn't catch that they were going to do character transfers too; suppose it is pretty standard though. Hopefully most of the community can avoid that by choosing a good server right off.

Anyone got contacts in other Phantasy Star roleplay communities?

Also, for those that use Facebook, here is this:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/PSO2O

It is a group for PSO2 of course. For those in it that are in the closed-beta test, they seem to be on Ship 2 Block 20.

This honestly is like the only Phantasy Star Roleplaying community I know of.
