The weather was stormy in Yankton, and that day was not easy to get around in. The weather was wreaking havoc, which wasn't unusual for it being in June. Storms were frequent. Jennifer Preusse took off her rain hat and stepped into the covered porch which surrounded the house where Stephanie lived.

Jennifer often spent time with her friend, due to her own apartment, which was located near the Mount Marty Campus, being quite lonely. She often ate dinner with Stephanie and her family, but tonight, when she arrived, there was a lot of tension.

Stephanie and Rick were not speaking. Aaron was comforting a friend of his, a guy named Alexander Ohlmann; Allison was enjoying the carnage; while Carolyn, Aaron's grandmother, was helping Aaron with Alexander.

Jennifer looked concerned at Rick. "Rick, what happened?" she asked quietly.

"Oh, Jennifer," Rick said angrily, "Stephanie betrayed me!"

Jennifer was stunned, "What happened?" she asked, "Steph, what did you do?!"

Aaron stepped up, "Aunt Jen, I want you to meet Alexader Ohlmann," he said, "Alex is my best friend......and my half-brother."

Jennifer was thrown. "What do you mean your half-brother?" she asked concerned.

"Remember Michael Ohlmann," Rick asked, "one of my classmates?"

"Yeah, I remember him," Jennifer said.

"Well, apparently," Rick said, glaring at Stephanie, who shrank away from his glare, "Stephanie and Michael had an affair while I was at a class function in Brookings! They had a night in bed and she gave birth to his child. Alex."

"Steph, how could you?" Jennifer asked.

"Don't you start judging me, Jenn," Stephanie pleaded.

"I don't judge you." Jennifer said, "you know that. But why did you lie to Rick that way all those years?"

"Rick and I had some problems during that time," Stephanie said, "he was always going to finance club or banking club meetings in Brookings. And I was always left behind by him. Michael paid me some attention, and it spiraled out from there."

"What about Aaron?" Jennifer said.

"I don't mind that he is my half-brother, Aunt Jen," Aaron said, "I am glad he is. He is my best friend, and also the brother I had never had."

"Aaron, you're being more compassionate than I would have been," Rick said quietly, "and that is your personality. I will be welcoming to Alex. He has no fault to bear in this. I will be welcoming to him."

"He is MY son," Stephanie said angrily, "you have no say about it!"

"I think he does, Stephanie," Carolyn said, "you did lie to him."

"Yes, I lied," Stephanie said tearfully, "I know I lied, and I regret doing so! I should have said something, but Rick and I were not speaking at that time."

"Oh, isn't this LOVELY?" Allison chortled. She was clearly enjoying the carnage.

"Shut up, Allison," Aaron said coldly.

"You shouldn't be defending Mother," Allison said nastily, "after all, she DID lie to Father."

"Maybe she did, Allison," Rick said coldly to his all-too-gleeful daughter, "but that doesn't give us the right to judge Alex for what happened. He will be welcomed in this house. He is to be respected as your brother, Allison."

"I will NEVER respect that bastard as MY brother," Allison raged, "Aaron might well be, but I will NOT!"

She flipped her hair in scorn at Alex and prepared to walk out of the room. Jennifer turned her right around and grabbed her arm.

"Apologize!" she said coldly.

Allison did not move.

"I SAID, APOLOGIZE TO YOUR BROTHERS!" Jennifer ordered.

"No!" Allison said.

"Apologize right now, Allison," Jennifer said angrily.

"What part of no, do you not understand, four-eyes?!" Allison sneered.

Jennifer glared at Stephanie's daughter. "You. Are. A. BITCH!!!!!" she yelled.

"I may be," Allison cackled, "but you are nothing!" Again, she flipped her hair in scorn and got ready to walk out of the room again. This time, someone slapped her. That was Stephanie!

"You apologize to your brothers, Allison," Stephanie said angrily.

"I told that four-eyed friend of yours, no," Allison cackled, "and I will tell you the same thing, NO!"

"I am sorry, Alex, for my daughter's despicable behavior," Stephanie said to her son, "you and Aaron can leave the room, we're going to deal with Allison."

"All right, Mom," Aaron said. He and Alex walked out of the kitchen, Aaron having his arm firmly around Alex's shoulder.

"Hypocrite," Allison screamed, "Dad is mad at you, and you turn this on me!"

Rick shot his daughter a nasty look, "I may be mad at your mother," he said to his daughter, "but your behavior just now was abominable and absolutely inexcusable!"

"I don't care," Allison snapped, "Whatever!"

"Rick," Stephanie said, "I am sorry about all that had happened. I know I should have said something, and I had wanted to do so, but I was scared of what could happen, and look at what did happen."

"You mean," Rick said, "you had wanted to tell me?"

"Of course, I did, Rick," Stephanie said, "why wouldn't I have told you something like that. Michael is dead now, and Alex has no father in his life."

"Well, then, why all the secrecy?" Rick asked.

Stephanie and Jennifer glared at Allison, who looked sickened.

"Why don't YOU tell your father, Allison," Stephanie said coldly, "why I didn't say anything?!"

Allison edged her way to the door. She got out of the door and ran down the steps. She ran away from her house.

"ALLISON!" Rick ran out to the yard, the rain had stopped. "Get back here, NOW!"

"GO TO HELL!" Allison screamed.

"I am calling the police," Rick yelled.

"Who the hell would believe you?" Allison snapped.

"I know your mother will," Rick said, "I see this for the scheme that it really is!"

"What do you mean?" Allison screamed.

"This was your scheme, wasn't it?" Rick snapped, "You wanted to sink this family!"

Allison glared at her father.

"Now, you get in here!" Rick commanded, "I have never been more disgusted with you! Trying to sink your own parents!"

Allison stomped up the steps to the house. She was furious.

Meanwhile, in the study, Jennifer, Mary Jo and Kristin came in and comforted Stephanie. "At least it is out now," Jennifer said, "now you can heal from this and move forward."

Kristin nodded, "Jen's right, honey," she said, for once, not being bitter, "at least Alex has a father now."

Mary Jo caressed her friend's hair, "Rick did say he would forgive you," she said, "especially after he found out that Allison had done this."

"I am so angry with Allison," Stephanie said, "I so want her to be disowned."

"She is your daughter," Mary Jo said, "whatever else she may be."

"She is a monster," Stephanie sobbed, "how could she have become so evil?"

"I don't know," Rick said, when he came in, "I wish I knew, honey."

"I am sorry," Stephanie sobbed in Rick's arms.

"I know," Rick said, "I was planning on leaving you tonight, but after I saw how much joy Allison was getting out of this, I pieced it together. SHE had done this, all of it. She stirred this up. She WILL be punished for this!"

"But how?" Stephanie said.

"You leave that part to me," Rick said, smiling at his wife, "I will handle it. But first I have to do two other things."

The next day, Rick filed papers with the Yankton County family court to get Alex adopted; and a few months later, Alex officially became a Barrington. Aaron was overjoyed. He and Alex had a grand time that night, talking until all hours of the morning. They slept in the next day (fortunately, Aaron didn't have to work)!

The second thing, he took Allison to court and had her disowned. Allison was enraged!

"I will NEVER forgive you for this, Father," she snapped, "NEVER! This was Mother's doing! Isn't it?! This is ALL her doing!"

Allison stormed out, her friend, Laura Baines following her loyally.

Stephanie glared at the girl who nearly devastated her family. "You nearly sank this family!" she yelled.

"And I would do it again too!" Allison screamed back! "You will suffer and I WILL get my revenge on you!"

Allison stormed off.

Stephanie felt tired.
