It was a warm and sunny day in Sweet Valley, California, and coming out of the Sweet Valley News office was Elizabeth Watts, who was finished with work for the day.

Elizabeth Watts (nee Wakefield) was the new managing editor of the News; and she was on her way to her home. She still lived in the same split-level home that she had grown up in on Calico Drive. Her parents had moved into a three bedroom apartment that still served them well.

She had been married to Tom Watts, her college sweetheart for almost ten years, and they had a son, Jonathan Thomas Watts; and a daughter, Alicia Renee. Alicia was named after her grandmother, Alice Wakefield; and Jonathan was named after Tom's former friend, Jon Andrews.

Despite their stormy background, and their constant break-ups; Tom and Elizabeth knew that they had always loved one another, and couldn't be without each other. When they met, after their college graduation, Tom had said he had broken up with conniving Dana Upshaw; and then he proposed to her at the Palomar House, the ritziest restaurant in Sweet Valley. Elizabeth said yes immediately.

Elizabeth's twin sister, Jessica, had been married to Roger Patman for many years, and marriage had really calmed her down. Roger was kind and caring to her; and although she loved him dearly, she still spat with his cousin, Bruce. Although Bruce and Jessica still squabbled a lot of the time, Bruce and his cousin, however, got along wonderfully. All the pain of their past was long forgotten. Before her death, Roger's Aunt Marie, had finally embraced him as a part of her family and her life.

Bruce had long broken up with Jessica's long-time best friend, Lila Fowler, and married his former high school girlfriend, Pamela Robertson. Lila had married a rich guy named Craig Stanwood. Lila and Elizabeth, who had never really gotten along, had long since put their differences aside.

In fact, Lila had stood up for Elizabeth at her wedding. Now, all three are close friends, and Elizabeth finally got to know the real Lila, who was, despite her wealth, was a rather nice person.

Jessica and Roger had two children, Ned and Maria (named after her father, and a close friend of theirs, Maria Santelli, who had been on Jessica's cheering squad.) Maria Santelli had married Todd Wilkins, and both lived in Los Angeles. Winston Egbert, her former boyfriend, had married his college sweetheart, Denise Waters, and they lived in San Francisco.

Elizabeth's former friend Alexandra Rollins was living in Europe; she married a guy in the UK and moved there soon after. She had attended Liz's wedding and then went back to the UK, where she was happily living. Liz and Alexandra still talked from time to time, but their lives had become so different.

Lila and Craig had three children, Craig Jr.; Gracie and Liane. Craig was named after his father; Gracie after Lila's mother, Grace; and Liane was named because Lila liked the name. Liane's middle name, Georgia, was kind of a mix of Lila's late father, George, and the place where she and Craig honeymooned, Georgia. After her father's death, Lila and Craig moved into Fowler Crest, the Fowler estate; Grace still lived there as well, giving her daughter and her family support and love.

Jon and Alicia, who were fraternal twins, were in sixth grade at Sweet Valley Middle School; as were Ned and Maria. Maria, who was in the fourth grade, was so much like her mother had been at her age; and Ned was much like his father.

Alicia was like her father, in that she was athletic and tomboyish, yet was the mirror image of her mother and her Aunt Jessica; while Jon was introspective and thoughtful like his mother, and was yet the spitting image of his handsome and athletic father. Maria often taunted and teased Jon and Alicia, while Ned tried to keep things civil between them.

Ned was often protective of Jon and Alicia, since they were born not too long after he was. Maria was two years younger than her older brother. That was what annoyed her. She had met up with Janet Walker; the most popular sixth grader in school. Janet was the daughter of one of her mother's oldest friends, Cara Walker. Cara had given birth to Janet while she lived in London. Janet hated her mother, and her strict rules.

She moved to California, to live with her Uncle Charlie. Charlie Walker was Cara's younger brother. Cara hadn't been able to deal with Janet, so she asked her brother to help raise her. Charlie was a lawyer in Steven Wakefield's law office and was married to Cara's former cheerleading teammate, Annie Whitman.

Steven and Cara had reconnected when she made a visit to Sweet Valley for Elizabeth's marriage to Tom. She and Steven decided that they would be married when she was able to come home.

Hence, all the hub-bub all over Sweet Valley. Elizabeth and Cara, who had become close friends when she and Steven had first dated, were preparing all the details. Jessica helped out, as did Lila Stanwood, who was also Elizabeth's friend.

Steven and his former girlfriend, Billie Winkler had broken up some years ago, and then Cara rebounded from a shattered relationship with Janet's father, Clive Fredericks; when Janet was born, she gave her her maiden name, Walker.

Soon after, the two reconnected at Elizabeth's wedding to Tom, and Steven asked her to marry him; and she said yes.

Meanwhile, Janet was sulking. She had no liking that her mother was remarrying.

Maria Patman came up to Janet. "Why are you so unhappy?" she asked.

"My mother, marrying some guy named Wakefield," she snapped.

"You mean, your mother is marrying my Uncle Steven?" Maria said, delightedly, "That's wonderful!"

"Baloney!" Janet snapped, "I don't like that."

"Aw, come on, Janet," Maria said, "Your mom and my Uncle Steven were a couple in high school."

"So what?!" she snapped.

"Come on, Janet," Maria said, "you're being unreasonable!"

"No I am not!" Janet screamed, "I'll stop the wedding."

"You do," Maria said glaring at her, she had her mother and aunt's famous temper,"and I will never speak to you again!"

"Your cousins are enjoying it," Janet snapped.

"They are my cousins and my family," Maria said furiously, "now, I mean it, you say one word about my uncle marrying your mom, and I will never ever speak to you again!"

That stopped Janet. She sulked while her mother married Steven Wakefield, but wisely said nothing.

Steven's parents, Ned and Alice Wakefield were watching as were Cara's parents. Elizabeth, Lila and Jessica stood up with their friend; as did Ellen DeHaven, an old friend of Jessica and Elizabeth's. Ellen Riteman had married Peter DeHaven, a professor at Sweet Valley University. That marriage had caused a dust-up between Ellen and his former girlfriend, Amy Sutton.

At their wedding, Amy almost spoke out about Ellen and Peter marrying, out of sheer jealousy; and that infuriated Jessica and Lila to no end. They never spoke to Amy after that. She married Jessica's old boyfriend, Jeremy Aames, and they moved to San Francisco. Nobody ever spoke of Amy again.

Tom McKay, one of Jessica and Elizabeth's friends, had met a guy in San Francisco, named Kip Winslow. The two had gotten married in San Francisco; and were happily living there. Even shy Lois Waller had long since gotten married. She lost a lot of weight, and kept it off, to Jessica's amazement, and she married a guy named Daniel Sterling. Daniel and Lois lived in Los Angeles, where she worked as an entertainment attorney. Even Lila's cousin, Janet Howell, had married a former boyfriend, Denny Hamilton, and they lived in Arizona.

Ken Matthews married Maria Slater; and Manuel Lopez married Sandra Bacon, they had two children, Cristobel; and Ana Maria. Jeannie West married a young man named Christopher; and Penny Ayala, a friend of Elizabeth's, had achieved her dream of being an editor of an international newspaper. She and Neil Freemount married, and they had three children, Michael; Andrea and Elizabeth. Elizabeth and Penny were still friends, despite Liz living in Sweet Valley and Penny living in London. Elizabeth was her children's godmother.

Meanwhile, Julie Bowen and her sister, Johanna Erickson, had to come together for their father's death.
