PRISONER: Joan Gets the Ax! Based on the Australian TV show, Prisoner, created by Reg Watson.

In the dark of night at Wentworth Detention Centre, a maximum security women's prison in Melbourne, Australia, Joan Ferguson, known and hated as the Freak, was prowling around the halls, with Zara Moonbeam, a so-called fortune teller, who was unwillingly involved with a scheme (in cahoots with Joan and another prisoner, Nola McKenzie) to drive Joan's arch-enemy, Prison Top Dog, Bea Smith, crazy. It was simple in it's execution, Zara was pretending to be Bea's dead-daughter, Debbie, by means of ventriloquism.

Bea heard the plaintive cries of "Debbie" and was consumed by grief. "Debbie, where are you?" Her dorm-mate, Lizzie Birdsworth, was awakened by her cries. Then she discovered that they had stopped and Bea was beyond grief-stricken. Just then, Meg Jackson Morris, one of the senior guards came in, trying to keep Bea from really falling into grief.

Meg took Bea to the hospital wing, where she was immediately sedated. Lizzie was in tears about what happened, and Meg knew it.

"Lizzie," Meg reassured her, "I assure you that we will find out what is going on. Don't worry ok? Now, just calm down, and tell me what is going on."

"I think I heard someone saying that she was Debbie," Lizzie sobbed, "but I know Bea enough to know that she is dead!"

"Lizzie," Meg asked, "do you know who is pulling this on Bea?"

"I have no idea, Mrs. M." Lizzie said, "but I have seen Joan Ferguson around with that bloody mongrel, Nola McKenzie. I think those two are in on it."

"How are they in on it?" Meg asked, "What were they doing?"

Just then, Zara came up to Meg and Lizzie. "Zara, what is wrong, luv?" Lizzie asked, "what are you all upset about?"

"I need to talk to someone," Zara wailed, "Mrs. Morris, may I talk with you also?"

"Of course, Moonbeam, what is wrong?" she asked, "do you wish to speak to the Governor?"

"No, but I may need to after I tell you what I did," Zara said.

"What did you do, luv?" Lizzie asked.

"I was recruited to drive Bea crazy," she confessed, "Nola McKenzie had me do my ventriloquism to pretend that my voice was her daughter's voice. I had someone else tell me to do it too."

"Who was that?" Meg asked.

"Miss Ferguson," Zara admitted, feeling totally destroyed. She knew that The Freak and Nola would hurt her for what she was telling.

"Zara, I will need you and Birdsworth to come down to the Governor's office to tell her exactly what you just told me," Meg said, "and if it IS true, then Nola and Miss Ferguson would be in deep trouble."

Hours later, Ann Reynolds, the Governor of Wentworth, was listening to the two. "Are you sure of this, Meg?" she asked.

"Zara was in tears when she came to tell me and Birdsworth what she had done," Meg said, "and I was there when Bea was in tears. I think Ferguson is behind this whole thing, her and McKenzie both!"

"So, you're filing formal charges against Ferguson and McKenzie?" Ann asked.

"Yes, Mrs. Reynolds," Meg said, "Ferguson has been a liability since she has been here, and if you look long enough, there are a lot of blots against her record."

Meg was also willing to tell Mrs. Reynolds about what she had discovered about Joan Ferguson when she herself was a prisoner.

The next morning, there was a meeting convened. Ann was present, as were Joyce Barry, the acting deputy Governor; and someone from the department. That someone was the new head of the department, Erica Davidson herself!

"I hope there is some solid evidence here," Erica said.

"I have enough to give you, Mrs. Davidson," Meg said.

Meg proceeded to show Erica the evidence that she had against Joan Ferguson. She was thorough in her investigation.

"I see," Erica said, "then this is exactly as we feared when we hired her at Wentworth in the first place."

"Meg, please take Birdsworth and Moonbeam out," Ann said.

Meg had Lizzie and Zara exit the governor's office. It looked like things weren't going well.

"Erica, this is troublesome," Ann said, "Joan Ferguson has been impaled by these charges."

"It was bound to be revealed," Erica said, "I should have known about her criminal tendencies when she was first hired here at Wentworth. I should have not hired her, and this is partly my fault."

"I share some of the blame here," Ann said, "had I not knuckled under to Ferguson, I would have been a bit firmer. Now look what has happened."

Joan Ferguson was blissfully unaware of the fact that she was about to be finished as a guard at Wentworth.

Ann called Joan in, as well as Meg, Lizzie and Zara.

"First things first," Ann said furiously, "Nola McKenzie has been placed in solitary for an indefinite length of time; Bea Smith has been taken out of Wentworth for her safety, and has been hospitalized, and only Meg Morris; Lizzie Birdsworth and Zara Moonbeam have been cleared to visit her. Meanwhile, it all boils down to this, Ferguson. From the very first when you set foot here in Wentworth, you've done nothing but cause trouble. Now your actions have nearly caused one of the inmates to have a nervous breakdown, and I won't allow you to do that to another prisoner!"

"My record is spotless," Joan demanded, "and you people aren't in any position to dictate to me!"

"On the contrary Ferguson," Erica said coldly, "we can, and we will deal with you immediately. The Department has recommended that you be fired on the spot for what you did to Bea Smith! Although Bea Smith committed murder, what you did to her was much worse than what she did to her cheating husband. You nearly wrecked her mental health; and that is despicable. You have been fired from your job, Joan Ferguson, and if you are ever caught on these grounds again, you will be immediately arrested. Because of what you did to her, Bea Smith will be released to a hospital to help heal her mental health and the damage you did to her. Lizzie and Zara will have their sentences reduced for their help in this investigation. And again, Meg, we thank you for your help on this."

So, with that, Joan the Freak Ferguson was fired from her job. Wentworth became a much nicer facility, and what happened to Joan? She was arrested for harassing Bea at the hospital she was in. Joan Ferguson became a criminal, much as she was horrified to discover!

THE END
