Back in 1976, powerhouse producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg (Charlie's Angels) produced a series, with Mike Nichols and created by noted playwright Jay Presson Allen. It was called Family, which focused on the lives and trials of a typical American family living in Pasadena, California. The show featured the late Sada Thompson and the late James Broderick as the parents, Doug and Kate Lawrence; and as the children, Kristy McNichol as Letitia "Buddy" Lawrence, Gray Frank as the son, Willie; Quinn Cummings as their adopted daughter, Annie Cooper Lawrence; and Elayne Heilveil and Meredith Baxter as their eldest, Nancy. Now, in 2016, the Lawrences return, in a manner of speaking. 1230 Holland features the now grown up children as they focus on their complicated lives. Kristy McNichol comes out of her self-imposed retirement and she once more reprises her role of Letitia (she outgrew the name, Buddy) Middleton. She is now the single (widowed) mother of two children, Michael and Sheila (Maxwell Cotton, Hayley Pullos). Her husband, Brad, was killed in a tragic car accident. Maxwell and Hayley also play twins Derek and Ashley Harper on the series, Harpers Falls. They work on both shows, shooting their scenes as the Harper twins early week, and then their roles on 1230 Holland in the later part of the week. Letitia works in Los Angeles as a media consultant. When her apartment in the Melrose section is made into a condo without her knowledge, she goes and moves her family into the house in Pasadena that she grew up in. Also reprising their roles are Gary Frank as Willie, who still has a strong bond with his sister, and has a close bond with his nephew, Michael; Meredith Baxter as Nancy, a lawyer and judge (and the de facto matriarch of the family) she is the one who comes up with the idea of Letitia moving into the family's house; and Quinn Cummings as Annie, who bonds well with Sheila. Season Hubley reprises her role of Salina Magee Lawrence, Willie's wife, who is estranged from him, due to adultery on her part. Elayne Heilveil, who had played the original Nancy in the mini-series, plays their paternal aunt, Emily Wyeth, sober for many years and offering the family solid support and love. Justin Bruening plays Nancy's son, Tim Maitland, while his real life wife, Alexa Havens plays his wife, Ashley. Like his parents before him, Tim deals with adultery. However, it is his wife, Ashley committing adultery, when she is caught in bed with a cowboy from a rodeo. Making some guest appearances is John Rubinstein who plays Tim's father, Jeff Maitland. Jeff is remarried, with another son, Craig. Tim is rather uncomfortable dealing with a half-brother who is nearing his late teens, but Tim offers to help him. On the other hand, Jeff's new wife, Stephanie, has no liking for Tim, and wants nothing to do with her step-son. Jeff, now the owner of his father's company, had met Stephanie after he divorced Nancy. However, he never realized that Stephanie had only married him for his money. John Rubinstein is reunited with actress Penny Peyser, who played his wife on the short-lived series, "Crazy Like a Fox", as she has joined the show playing the role of Jeff's money-grubbing second wife. Clark James Gable plays Chris Parker, Nancy's co-worker at her law office. He was originally attracted to Nancy, but she refuses his advances, due to his age. He then, with Nancy's urging, takes up with Letitia, who hadn't dated since Brad's death, and is not sure she wants to. Chris forges a bond with Michael and Sheila, which helps Letitia become more open to dating him. The spirits of both Kate and Doug loom large over this show, as, more times as not, the children ask themselves what their parents would have done in many trying situations. Watch and enjoy the lives of the Lawrences in 2016, as 1230 Holland comes to you. Edited by AlbieGray689, Aug 14 2016, 11:13 PM.
