Scene One: Walnut Street in downtown Chattanooga. Lizzie Whittaker has come out of an attorney's office, as she was served divorce papers from Mike. She is disgusted that the pre-nuptial agreement is iron-clad, and thereby cannot be broken. This leaves Lizzie out of fleecing her husband out of his money. As she walks down Walnut Street, she glares at another woman coming out of Chez Lookout, a nearby French Restaurant on Lookout Street, named after the famous promontory, Lookout Mountain. The woman is Amelie DesJarlais, whose husband owned the restaurant. She and Lizzie were once best friends at boarding school, but are now arch enemies.

AMELIE: Well, well, Varner. You're still strutting around like Lady Muck, are you?

LIZZIE: I'd say the same to you, Roubillard, but I will not. I have more class than you do!

AMELIE: You have CLASS?! I don't think so, dear. When you were told that your husband was throwing you out of the house, I bet it stung like a bee!

LIZZIE (lying): I initiated it!

AMELIE: I wouldn't have even thought that you could show your face around Chattanooga. Not after the news ate you and your crooked father up and spit you out!

LIZZIE (angrily): What the hell do you know about it?!

AMELIE (just as angrily): More than you know, lady!

LIZZIE: Whittaker's station told the whole story.

AMELIE: No, they did not, you miserable liar. They didn't even say anything. They were thinking of the family! Something you never do!

LIZZIE (angered her lies are being debunked): What do you mean?!

AMELIE: Your husband, honorable man that he is, plays by the rules. Had his station run the story, it would have been a conflict of interest! And they did not want to do that. They saved your damned ass, although why they did, I don't know. But you are an absolute ingrate!

LIZZIE: What do you mean?

AMELIE: Channel 8 News, owned by the Sprague family, ran the story! The Spragues know the Whittakers, but they knew what your father did! Not to mention what you are capable of, the pair of you!

LIZZIE: Who cares?!

AMELIE: I do! I do, and so does every person in Chattanooga who is sick and tired of you and your father's venom! The Varners are going to fall down! And I cannot wait to be on hand to see it!

(Amelie storms back down the street back to the restaurant. Lizzie dismisses her words as nothing, and she walks back to First Baptist Church. She is appalled at the IRS being there, and as such, a guard stops her.)

GUARD: You cannot set foot here. Orders of the IRS.

LIZZIE: Go to hell, you rent a cop! My daddy is the pastor here!

GUARD: Not anymore he isn't.

LIZZIE: What do you mean?!

GUARD: He's been fired!

(Lizzie is appalled! The scene fades)

Scene Two: The Whittaker Mansion. Jodie is outside of the house, she is giving a press conference about the state of her parents marriage and the state of Whittaker Communications. The reporters are merciless and the strain is wearing on Jodie.

REPORTER #1: Ms. Whittaker, is it true that your father's company refused to report on the situation with your mother and her father?

JODIE: The reason that we did not talk about that on the news at the station, is because it would have been a massive conflict of interest. I know we're supposed to get out the information out to people, but to do so with my own family as the target is not what we're supposed to do things. I know the Trump faction want to do anything less than ethical, but some media outlets do NOT run that way. My father's company is one of them!

REPORTER #2: You did not answer the question.

JODIE (tersely): I believe I did, Madame! What you fail to get is that we're not all bowing and scraping to Trump! I know my mother and grandfather would, because of who they are, but I will NOT! So, get that through your heads!

REPORTER #3: You just gave away your hatred of Donald Trump!

JODIE: That is not what I said. Your twisting my words is only making you look stupid!

REPORTER #3: By your words do you hang yourself!

JODIE: I am not going to be humiliated by you lot!

(Enter Mike. He is furious at the shoddy reporting.)

MIKE: Who do you think you are? Insulting my daughter?

REPORTER #1: Then why did you not report your family's issues on your television station?

MIKE: Because I was the one who said that will not happen. Most of your organizations would do anything to drag the Whittaker name through the mud! I know most of you have been planted here by that damned Varner!

REPORTER #2: How did you KNOW that?!

MIKE: This whole scheme has my ex-wife's handprints ALL over it! You were called here to humiliate my daughter, and to build up the Varner case for divorce! If avoiding a conflict of interest is a crime, then damn it, I am guilty of it. I REFUSE to expose my family to ridicule! You may be all bent on humiliating me and Jodie, but let me warn you, and you had better be listening to this, Varner, if you try any more stunts like this, with the attempt to humiliate me or anyone else in my family, I will DESTROY you! Your power will be worth nothing, when I smear you and my ex-wife in this town.

REPORTER #2: You know this will get back to him!

MIKE: Oh, really? I don't think so!

REPORTER #2 (sneering): What you going to do to them? He is a powerful Baptist minister and she is the very soul of goodness!

MIKE: I've already set the stage for their downfall. First of all, I have submitted a complaint before the head of the Baptist convention in Nashville, they have already taken what I have said into consideration! As such, he has been removed as Senior Pastor. Especially after what was revealed about my ex-wife.

REPORTER #2 (sickened): What?!

MIKE: The woman you all place on a pedestal next to Jan Crouch is nothing more than a common slut!

(Reporters getting their notebooks and taking down notes.)

JODIE: Dad?

MIKE: Don't you worry, Jodie. Your mother forced my hand on this, and now, she is going to pay for it.

REPORTER #1: What did she do?

MIKE: She always passed herself off as genteel, and as you say, the very "soul of goodness", but she is nothing more than a common slut. She took my younger daughter, Beth to the truck stops on the Georgia side of the border.

REPORTER #2: How old is she? The daughter that is?

MIKE: Thirteen!

(The reporters feel bad at how they treated Jodie)

REPORTER #1: Ms. Whittaker, I am sorry for the way we treated you. Your mother was the one in the wrong.

JODIE (graciously): Thank you.

(Mike puts his arm around Jodie as he continues the press conference)

Scene Three: The Sprattman house. Mark and Jeff are sitting on the veranda of this lovely home. Nestled in the wooded area in the northern part of Chattanooga, the Sprattmans are very comfortable, although not on a level as the Whittakers.

MARK: That was a lovely luncheon. Your cook did a wonderful job.

JEFF: Thank you. Nothing like your cook though.

MARK: Thanks. With Mike and Jodie having a press conference at the house, I had to be here.

JEFF: Your brother came to Jodie's rescue.

MARK: She texted me. She told me that those reporters were moles.

JEFF: Moles?

MARK: Yep, planted by my ex-sister in-law dearest!

JEFF: She has no shame!

MARK: Nope, but Mike put her in her place.

JEFF: How?

MARK: Her secret life as a slut at the truck stops was exposed to all the reporters. He told them off for berating Jodie.

JEFF: Wow.

MARK: Yeah, they got a whole earful about Lizzie's antics. They replaced Rev. Varner at the church, and the church has a lien on it now.

JEFF: Interesting.

MARK: You know it.

JEFF: I hope Varner is properly humiliated.

MARK: He will be! But I have a question for you.

JEFF: What is it, Mark?

MARK (love in his eyes): Will you marry me?

(Jeff is starstruck. His eyes fill with tears)

JEFF: Yes, I will marry you!

(The scene fades)
