HGFT will be a standalone project instead of a WC3 map project. But this forum will be still alive.

My Opinion on WC3 Modding

This is my own opinion on Warcraft III modding today, based on its happenings and trends I saw during the few years of my WC3 modding career. I take no offense in this opinion.

I saw that the almost unoriginality now dominates most of the WC3 resources uploaded almost every day. Copy-and-paste, and ripped, icons are unoriginal, as well as ripped models. Most anime and video game themed maps of today place a greater demand for them. However, the rate of releasing WC3 resources as well as maps, are lower than as such last year. WC3 modding is starting to show its age because of this.

Another sign I examined is the lack of effort and sufficient time that any model animator may animate the bulk of models converted to WC3 format that have no animation whatsoever, and the unfinished map completion process.

Really, it takes some time to create a really good spell that is leakless, MUI, and optimized. By today's standards the single best place to download spells is The Hive Workshop.

A release of the JASS NewGen Pack (JNGP) that is fully compatible with the 1.26 patch is LONG OVERDUE. In general, there is no stable release of JNGP, judging from the numerous reports of non-operatibility, mishaps, and other bugs I saw.

About WC3 resource quality, most Warcraft-ish models are not so good by today's professional 3D modeling standards. For me, the WC3 modding world must await the release of a game similar to Warcraft III but with far greater quality, and a level editor that is on par with the World Editor (or even Starcraft II's Galaxy Editor).

The current modder-to-custom-map-player ratio is big, meaning currently active WC3 modders now number in the few thousands. A newer game by the name of Minecraft has so many mods now, but I do not know for now how that number compares with the thousands of available WC3 custom maps and resources. (I think Warcraft III may get the Guinness World Record for the most third-party resources and modifications made for a single video game!)

One of the more promising WC3 mods today is the ever-growing WarDotA2 (currently maintained by several hands), which gives a Dota 2 experience for a DotA player without exceeding the DotA map's file size.

For me, to survive for long, WC3 modding still goes a grueling way. In this, the desire for more unique WC3 resources counteracts effort in making them. This, the aformentioned WC3 mod, the use of the World Editor as a premininary in being involved in actual game design/development or just for fun or in makng a fangame based on one's favorite animated or live-action series, and continuing exploitation of the features of JASS and vJASS for the sake of versatility, today fuel WC3 modding. I conceptualized a unified idea to push WC3 modding into a clearer future. Details are separately published.

FROM WHAT I SAW RECENTLY, THE DECLINE OF WARCRAFT III MODDING IS JUST THE BEGINNING.

I AM RETIRED FROM WC3 MODDING, AND HGFT WILL BE A STANDALONE GAME INSTEAD OF A WARCRAFT III MAP.
