A cameraman quickly enters the locker room of Ryan Corey about twenty minutes after the end of his hellacious match with Abbadon. Corey's still bleeding nicely from his forehead, with a nasty cut running from just above the bridge of his nose, over his right eye, then curving up into his hairline. The camerman looks at Ryan with a longing look, and he simply nods his head slowly, trying not to interrupt the HKW Medical Staff as they go about patching him up. Camera Man: Ryan, can you talk to us about your match tonight? Corey snorts, then chuckles. Ryan Corey: You're going to have to be more specific than that. I've got thirty minutes of memory to wade through. Camera Man: OK. Does Abbadon now have your respect? Corey grins as someone wipes his forehead with a white cloth, containing antiseptic. Corey's face quickly turns to a grimace as the cleaning solution burns out the impurities in the area, then begins. Ryan Corey: Here's the thing, a little lesson for people. Joey is a professional wrestler, just like me. Naturally, there's going to be a certain level of respect there for everyone, whether they admit it or not. But what he did before tonight? He went over the limit. He crossed a line, and win or lose, my job tonight was to teach him that he crossed that line, and what happens when you do that. Now don't get me wrong, i went out there with every intention of winning that match, and I'm extremely happy I did win that match, but that wasn't the penultimate goal. The kid earned my full respect tonight, though. Camera Man: The buzz on Twitter right now is that HKW shouldn't have kicked off the show with such a violent match. What say you on that accord? Corey held up a hand, as one of the staffers was inserting three staples at the hairline. As he finished, Ryan continued. Ryan Corey: Well, I know in talking with Brandon, they wanted to set the bar high, especially given that it's the company's first branded pay-per-view show. Tonight, it was all Defiance brand talent out there. No one from iGNITE. No one waiting to get put into one brand or the other. Whatever match went on first, it needed to get the crowd into it, get the audience on the edge of their seats, and yet leave them wanting to watch the rest of the show. Now, I can't say that anyone in any other match tonight gave as much of themselves as either Joey or I did....I mean, we're both bloody, beaten, bruised messes of human beings right now. But in their own ways, everyone put on a show, trying to reach the level we put out there in that first match. As a promoter myself, it's smart money to put a match like that, with a big-name veteran and a hungry young lion going at each other's throats, right at the top. So to the critics, I suppose I would ask if they enjoyed it. If not, well, sorry, we're still keeping your money. Camera Man: What was it like backstage here before the show, for example, during the pre-show matches. Ryan Corey: I tell you what, I've wrestled in some big-time arenas over the years. I've been in japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico...you name a big-name arena around the world, and chances are I've wrestled there. But there was something electric back here tonight as we all got ready for the show. It was invigorating, really. Just a great environment to have been a part of. Camera Man: Where does Ryan Corey go from here? Ryan grunts. Ryan Corey: Well, despite the fine job these men and women are doing, still probably to an ER after the show for some touch-up work and just a general once-over, make sure I'm OK to fly home. In terms of HKW, though, there's a certain new champion who got her belt in a rather heinous way tonight, and I kinda feel right now like Fran needs to learn the real meaning of No Limits. Camera Man: Seems like you might have had eyes for that belt anyway. Ryan Corey: I won't lie. Had Colton not had happen to him what happened tonight, I would have challenged him to a title match, but to his face, man to man, out in the middle of the ring next Defiance. No shenanigans, no backhanded tactics, just two wrestlers putting on a show for the fans over that title. But now, see, I have some additional fuel for the fire. I don't suffer idiots well, and one of HKW's biggest just stole a title from someone I was looking forward to facing. So yeah, I'm gunning for the No Limits Championship. One of the staffers says something to Corey, inaudible to the camera. Ryan looks at the camera man and speaks. Ryan Corey: Gonna have to cut this short. They need to stand in front of me now and work on my picture-perfect face. *snort* Anything else real quick? Camera Man: I think that will do it. Congratulations on winning one helluva match tonight. Ryan nods and smiles, and a female staffer steps in front of him, gloves on, with needle and thread in hand to continue to patch up the Nightbringer. |
